If you are thinking about going to the Riu Bachata hotel in the Dominican Republic (Think Again) (Don't Go) My husband & I just came back Nov. 30th/09 after a two week stay. For the past week I have had to wash and rewash everything we had with us.What I couldn't wash is now in the garage. (Airing). The A C in our room was only turned on around 3 or 4 p.m. to 3 a.m. The rest of the time only the fan was going. We complained to the Riu management but it didn't do any good. With the humidity everything smelt musty when we got home. As for the rest, the beds were well worn, the liquor was watered down and most of the time the food was salty and over cooked. Even was wasn't over cooked like the beef they served one night almost raw. ( Was tough) My husband was in bed for two days sick, with food poisoning from the fish he ate. If you like to walk on the beach and swim you need rubber shoes. We will never go back nor will we recommend it to anyone. On the good side. The hotel and grounds were beautiful. Our cleaning girl C was great.

This hotel was absolutely gorgeous, the staff was incredibly friendly. However, the food was not very good at all. Its a great value if booked at the right time, but I suggest bringing some snacks from home for the times when your stomach isn't up for the food at the resort. Its not the kind of area where you can leave the resort for dinner.

This has been a trip from He11. It all started out good when we booked the trip through this aweful company (travel online). we booked a 3 night 4 day stay at an "all inclusive" resort that came recommended by travel online. Upon arrival there was no electricity, no running water, no food , pretty much anything that is on the description, we didnt recieve. we stayed there for 6 hours and complained about the issue of no electricty or running water to the front desk and their response to us was "if you dont like it you can leave". That is completly unacceptable for me bc we spent $* to go sit in the dark with no A.C. We ended up checking out and leaving the resort to go somewhere else. the staff was very unfriendly and didnt want to do anything for us. They said that we need to talk to travel online bc they booked the trip for us. We ended having to buy another set of plane tickets to come home early after this huge mess and so far travel online has not been any help at all. All they say is "i appologize" and "i understand what your're going through" but still are unwilling to give us anything in return other then refunding the hotel portion of the stay. We also asked that they refund the cost of the return trip home bc we already got a flight and are home now. This whole trip cam highly recommended from travel online and was a huge disappointment. We are not even asking for a complete refund but only a refund on the portion we are not going to use ( the return trip home) and so far they are unwilling to do that. Good luck to anyone else using this company

stayed sept 21 for a week, had a great time, would recommend to anybody. stay here and have a great time. the riu complex consists of three hotels, the bachata, the merengue, and the mambo all connected by a paved walkway by the beach. my only complaint is that they dont have any presidente, all they have is brahma, its good, but i like presidente.

The hotel is nice the pool and the service for the price that you get is good. There are 3 things that i did not like the bed was very hard, the air conditioning and the toilet was not working properly i called for service they came they said that they fixed but they didn't. I went on labor day weekend september and was very hot and with the a/c not working good i couldnt sleep well the complete vacations. But everything else was good.
