We stayed in the villas, and while they were nice, the service was terrible. We tried to check in early - were told to come back at 4:00. We came back at 4:30 and the villa was still not ready!! The place was nice - updated and spacious but the staff acted as if they couldn't care less. We never got cleaning service one day despite asking for it twice. The pool area is infested with yellow jackets. We will never go back again.

This is a nice resort. Since it is older it could do with some updating/remodeling. We had a couple of bumps at the beginning of our stay which the staff quickly resolved in upgrading our room at no charge and some credits. We really didn't have the time to take in all the extra activities available but found the property well maintained and neat. I would like to have had a small refrigerator in our room which is usually the norm.

We were very pleased with the Carefree Resort. We had one of the least expensive rooms, and yet it was very spacious, clean and comfortable. The staff at the resort were all extremely helpful and friendly, making you feel special.Service was always good and prompt.

Traveling to Scottsdale almost every summer for the past 8 years, we were tempted to branch out from our usual locations and try a more serene resort. Seeing a 4-star rating and cheaper rates, we booked a 6 day stay at the Carefree Resort & Villas in a ""premier Resort View"" room. Each night of our stay, the walls, curtains, lampshades and even our bed was crawling with cockroach-type bugs. Waking up each night to bugs crawling on us hadn't happened at the other Arizona resorts we had visited and we weren't too comfortable experiencing it at this resort. When I mentioned it to the front desk, they smiled, rolled their eyes and said that the bugs were a problem, but offered no solution. For 4 out of our 6 day visit, the ice machines in our 1950's era building were not working. No signs indicating so or when they were expected to be working, just non-working ice machines. Management indicated that room service would be glad to get us ice or we could go over to the other building. The pool area was littered with empty glasses from the previous evening of pool goers each day. The evening pool scene was one of careful swimming with the hordes of bugs that were swimming in the pool with the 20 or so guests that were at the resort at this time. Most disconcerting was seeming complete disregard senior resort management seems to have for their guests. Two letters have been written to the General Manager asking for an explanation as to the experience we had at this ""4-star"" resort have been completely ignored. I have stayed at 1-star hotels that were a better value than this one.

Concierge did not notice we were waiting, treated us rudely I am guessing based on our age (22 and 22), did not activate our keys properly and we had to return to find she told us to go to the wrong room. Bed lamp hinge was broken, outdoor lamp was infested with bugs, paint bucket was left on stairs outside our room, make-up stains were found on a pillow, and the shower curtain had black mold growing on it. Location is very far from town unless you are staying to golf but has a beautiful mountain setting. HIDDEN FEES if you are going through an online travel agency they said the online travel agency does not charge fees based on maids/wifi/pool/gym and we were required to pay $20 +tax upon checking out even though we did not use any of these amenities. We came home to find we were charged $50 more than we were told. NEVER STAYING HERE AGAIN!
