  Hotel location is great. We walked, took the cable car, or subway everywhere. The rooms are very small and you could hear hallway noise. We didn't spend much time in the room so for us the location was more important than the size of the room.

  I stayed at the Chancellor Hotel for business. I chose it because of its proximity to a conference that I attended and that is was half the price of a neighboring hotel (online travel website has some great package deals). The Chancellor is an older hotel, so it has small elevators, narrowish hallways, and cozy rooms. I found the hotel to be clean, comfortable, with friendly staff, in a great location, and as I mentioned, a great value. The room was a bit small but fine for 1 of 2 people. The walk-in closet was huge and the bathtub was also quite large and great for a soak. They also offer a pillow ""menu,"" which is nice if you like trying different things, as I do. One note, the first time I requested a pillow, it never showed. However, the next day when I again asked, it came w/in 10 minutes. BTW, they offer tea/coffee, fruit, & cookies 24/7 AND they offer free Wi-Fi - a big thumbs up! The restaurant was good - the food tasty, not overly inflated pricing, and average service (the waiter was not as attentive as I would have liked and the food took longer than I thought it should). There were a range of guests staying at the Chancellor - business people, families, and tourists (of all ages). I recommend the Chancellor for its value, location, basic amenities, and courteous staff.

  I stayed here for 3 days for part conference/part vacation. The hotel is older but well-kept. Rooms are small and bathrooms even smaller but they are recently renovated. The staff is friendly and more than helpful! The location is close to plenty of shopping and public transportation. Would recommend.

  The Chancellor is one of those old San Francisco hotels located in the Union Square area. It is close to everything. However, the hotel is now dated. There was no AC, the staff was rude. The bathroom was too small. Beds were also inconvenient. Parking is paid valet only so the relatively cheap room rate becomes not so cheap when you tack that on.

  The inexpensive Chancellor remains my favorite hotel in SF. A comfortable historic hotel that's been updated but retains its historic charm. It is not a 5-star hotel and does not claim to be. The rooms were quite adequate in size. Two people should have no problem with the space. Unless you plan on having lots of visitors sitting in your hotel room the rooms are fine. Overall, we had a lovely stay..!!!
