We enjoyed our stay here, but be prepared for what the Queen Anne is. It is an old converted boarding school. The original building was built in late 1800 or early 1900? Some aspects of the hotel and room showed its age. The room was clean. My wife called it 'shabby sheek.' the room keys are old style punch-card type. The bathroom door was hard to properly close and lock but the bathroom was nicely updated with granite tile. One problem, we have an infant and were on the fourth floor...there were no screens or bars on our open window. This is dangerous for young children. There was no air conditioning and the only way to cool a stuffy room was to open the window. Cable TV reception was horrible but we were not hanging out in the room much. Very close to Japantown and lots of Sushi!

The Queen Anne is a gorgeous old Victorian hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Parking was reasonable ($$ a night, compared to $$ at Fisherman's Wharf), in a lot across the street. No, the location is not near major attractions, but it is in a safe, nice neighborhood--check out the Japantown mall! A taxi ride can get you to wherever you want. Did not know about the ghost, but that made our stay more interesting. Awesome coffee!

The Queen Anne Hotel is definitely a uniquely San Francisco experience. It has a charming, old-world feeling. The staff is extrodinarily helpful and friendly. They offer a very full and delicious morning breakfast as well as afternoon tea and sherry. This created a very friendly, neighborhood feeling among the guests at the hotel.

However, this is where the charm stopped for me. It is rather old and musty. The plumbing is leaky and slow. There is no water pressure. There is absolutely no loading area on the street when you arrive for check-in so we wound up circling the block for 20 minutes to figure out how we were going to check-in and get our bags from the car without getting a hefty parking ticket. When we finally scored a space across the street from the hotel and were able to check-in, we were able to get a space in the hotel parking lot. However, we became rather alarmed when the hotel staff became very insistent that they were in no way responsible for any damage to the vechicle. It became very clear why when we parked the car and there were two cars in the hotel lot that had been broken into with smashed out windows.

In the end, we ejoyed our stay. Would we go there again? No. For a mere few dollars more, one can stay in a better located, better condition hotel in the heart of Union Square. So if you have the money, do that. If not, The Queen Anne is better than the other choices in this price range so stay here.

Quiet, modest and atmospheric hotel. very clean. stay away if the ""ghost"" aspect bothers you.
