We stayed for business. I would be more upset if I stayed here on a personal vacation. The rooms are disgusting and desperately require remodeling and upgrades. The room had stains all over the carpet, night stand, bath tub, bathroom sink, walls, window sill, and desk. I'd hate to see how many germs were living in the room on the bed spreads, telephone, remote control, door knobs, etc. The walls are paper thin; we could hear people in the hall all night and heard everything in the neighboring rooms. Parking is $*/night! The city grill resturaunt downstairs is way over priced with TERRBILE service. A cup of coffee with breakfast is $* and fresh squeezed OJ was $*/glass! The only two good things about the room: the bed was comfortable and the towels were nice. Overall - DO NOT STAY HERE!

My daughter and I stayed here in room 1231 on July 6th for the Michael Jackson memorial service. It started badly and just went downhill from there. Let's start with the positives...the room didn't smell and the shower was strong and hot. Well, now that's done, we'll move on to the negatives. It costs $35 PER DAY for valet parking. There are no other parking options. No self parking. No street parking. So...figure that into the cost of your room. We pulled into the garage and saw the valet sign. We waited for over 10 minutes while watching 3 valet attendants talking with each other. They did not even acknowledge our presence until I pulled away into the garage myself. BOY did they move then! We were chased after and yelled at. When I told them I waited for over 10 minutes without even being acknowledged, the attendant said, "Well, we're really busy right now." Not so busy that he couldn't run after me, so I'm thinking someone could have come over and said, "I'm sorry, we're really busy right now. If you want, you can get out your luggage and we'll be with you as soon as possible." Customer service. What a novel concept!?! When I checked in, I told the person at the desk about our experience with the valet. She said, "Oh, well, they must be really busy." Her snooty tone of voice indicated "How dare you question our valets!" Our room was tiny. No dresser and a small window that did not open. Walls were paper thin and we could easily hear traffic noise and the conversations in the room next to us. (All night.) The fluorescent light in the bathroom was impossible to use for applying make up. Almost no counter top. Toilet at a weird, awkward angle. The mirror had a large vertical joint that hit right down the middle or right side of your face when you stood in front of the sink area. When we entered the room at about 5 pm, it was humid. We turned the air conditioning down to 65. When we returned at about midnight, it was 72 degrees. Not too hot, but still humid in the room. We tried to sleep. The bed linens were sandpaper scratchy. This was magnified by the humidity. At 1:40 am, I called customer service via the room phone. I wanted to check and be sure I wasn't making a mistake with the air conditioning controller. The woman who answered the customer service line said, "I have no idea how the thermostat works!" (Duh! Boy was I stupid for asking her!) She sent up someone from engineering. He was actually very nice. He set the thermostat at 64 degrees and checked to be sure cool air was coming through the vent. I told him the temperature hadn't changed since we arrived and turned the thermostat down. He offered to find us a different room, but my daughter was finally asleep and we would have had to repack. In the morning when we checked out, I told the woman at the front desk that they may want to check the thermostat because even after the man from engineering came and set it at 64, the temp never got below 70. She proceeded to say how that was impossible because they had just remodeled the system. I wasn't going to argue with her, but suggested she speak with engineering because the man who came to check on it could verify that he set it at 64 and the temperature when we left the room was 72. No "I'm sorry for your inconvenience" or anything even remotely close to good customer service. When was the last time a front desk attendant in a 4 star hotel argued with and chastised a guest? I have stayed in 2 star hotels with better customer service. We've stayed in many 4 star hotels before and never encountered anything like this. I can only guess that it is the hotel's policy since 3 of the 4 staff members we encountered had the same attitude. The only worse hotel experiences I've ever had involved bugs in the room. So...at least I can say there were no apparent bugs!

This was probably a nice hotel about 15 years ago, but it's quite obvious there have been absolutely no improvements or upgrades since then. I had to stay here because the conference I was attending was at this hotel. First, the parking - $30 a night! I know parking in downtown Los Angeles can be pricey, but when you consider it costs half that to park at the building across the street, something is amiss. Then there's the rooms. A room with a king bed is the size of a broom closet. Are we in Europe or something? The walls are tissue paper thin and I could hear the baby crying all night in the room next door and the rowdy people talking until 2 a.m. on the other side. The room was freezing - the air conditioning and heating were not working, so I had to ask for extra blankets. The shower barely had a trickle. And the bathroom had very poor lighting. The smoke detector' s light was flashing all night my first night there and the tv remote did not work. All of the restaurants in the hotel are very, VERY pricey. The most moderately priced one closes at 2 p.m. and there aren't exactly a lot of cheap restaurants open in downtown after 5. The concierge was useless - they couldn't even tell a tourist how to get to USC, which is just up the street. (I had to tell the poor guy) I am a Los Angeles native and I know there are a bazillion hotels in Los Angeles that are comparably priced and are way better than the Wilshire Grand. Any one of them would be an improvement.

This hotel is located RIGHT BESIDE the metro station- very convenient for travel in and around LA. Parking is an extra $30 a day so don't bring a vehicle here, shopping areas nearby and Morton's Steakhouse is right across the street. Only 2 pillows are given and the walls are thin. No airport shuttle either- you'll have to pay for that additional also. "

If you are choosing hotels in Downtown LA according to the price, add additional 30 dollars to your budget if you plan to drive your car there. The facility is Old, and the walls are thin. If you already make an reservation, try to be there earlier (before 11 p.m). Otherwise you may not have a chance to find a cheaper parking spot near the hotel.Try other major hotels!
