• VERY NOISY HOTEL

  This hotel is REALLY LOUD. Located next to a freeway offramp, there is no sound deadening in the walls and because it is pet-friendly, you will see (and hear) a lot of dogs. It attracts a lot of 'riggers' from the oil company so women may not feel unsafe, but they will feel uncomfortable. The staff is friendly, but the accommodations are the worst in any Best Western we've stayed in.

• Non-smoking rooms, what non-smoking rooms

  I have stayed at the John Muir Inn twice over a 3 year period and both times, the room was over perfumed because of the previous smokers in the room. When we stayed in summer, 2005, the pool was worked and alot of fun. There was no internet connection to our room both times, and this was 2.5 years apart in visits. When we were there in Nov, 2007, I was afraid to walk the hallways because of all the partying taking place in the larger suites, and this was a Monday night.
  
  The hotel seems to be rented by by companies who are providing temporary workers to the local oil refineries. Most of the temp workers were unkempt and rather scarey to be around. The smell of smoke coming from the rooms marked "Non-smoking" showed that the hotel was more interested in making a buck than catering to the other visitors, like business people and families. The cleaning people had to keep spraying the rooms to rid of all the smoke. The stench of the spray was just as bad as the lingering cigarette smoke, I don't know what was worse. Each time we requested non-smoking rooms.
  
  When answering a phone request about service, the front desk person just snickered and said, "You'll figure it out." The only working internet connection was in the "business center" where the computer monitor was to the public's view so no confidentiality was possible.
  
  Please, check out other hotels if you want to sleep, but stay here if you like to party.

  They were doing some work by the pool so i was not able to use it. but it seemed quaint.
