  We felt very comfortable staying here and felt like it was a great value for our money. The room was clean and pleasant. We had accidentally booked a smoking room, but the front desk staff were nice enough to move us to a non-smoking room and even upgraded us to a king-sized bed. We were able to make good use of the refrigerator and the microwave. We felt like we had plenty of space for the three of us and all of our luggage. There are lots of stores and places to eat nearby. The only complaint we had was that it was a little difficult to find the Econo Lodge and we had to drive around a lot until we finally found it (this is because it is on East Castro Valley Blvd. and we were on Castro Valley Blvd.), and when we called the hotel to get directions it was very difficult for us to understand the people who answered the phone, and for them to understand us. They were unable to give us clear, understandable directions. We called several times to get more information from them and we talked to two different people before we were able to find it. Throughout our stay, we didn't feel like we could ask them for directions to anywhere else. Thankfully, the Econo Lodge comes equipped with free wireless internet service so we just looked up directions on the internet. Lastly, the Econo Lodge serves a continental breakfast which is nice, but consists mostly of donuts, coffee, white bread for toast, and juice, so we ended up having breakfast in our room so that we could make healthier, more hearty choices in food.

• A Nice, Clean, Comfortable Room

  This motel was a very good value! it was quiet and comfortable; the staff was pleasant and accomodating. all in all a very nice place!

• Disappointing

  We changed rooms 3 times trying to get a decent one. we settled for the 3rd room, but the door had been broken into so the chain latch would not ...

  We changed rooms 3 times trying to get a decent one. We settled for the 3rd room, but the door had been broken into so the chain latch would not keep anyone from entering, the heater was hard to keep running, the smoke alarm was missing and the light switch didn't work. The location was a short drive to the Oakland Airport and close to public transportation, but this is the worst hotel we have ever had.

  The upside: the staff was friendly and quite helpful during my stay, and the rooms were clean (don't mistake my review below, they were VERY clean). Ample parking, continental breakfast every morning, and the pool and hottub were working and available. The room included a mini-fridge and a microwave.
  
  The downside - other guests ignoring the pool/hottub hours (screaming children at 7am? Just try to get back to sleep!), no in-room coffee pot, and the overall room condition. The screen on my window was torn and hanging (quite obviously, this wasn't just a little hole), the emergency-telephone continually fell off the wall in the bathroom, the carpet was stained, and there were water spots on the ceiling.
  
  FYI - you can NOT pull into the parking lot of the motel next door and cut over, despite the ajoined parking lots (this was a little confusing, as they seemed like they would be associated) because the joined area is blocked off. Also, the left turn lane at the light goes into a sidewalk about 20 feet early, not *the* driveway, or even *a* driveway.

  I enjoyed my stay at Econo Lodge in Castro Valley, CA. Clean rooms and well kept up hotel. Excellent Staff and nice customer service. Views of Castro Valley are really nice from the room or the balcony. Enjoyed convienance of the shopping center across the street.
