  From the moment we drove to the motel it gave a poor impression. There is a vacant, run down restaurant right next to it and it made me wonder about our safety. Apparently they are remodeling it and will eventually be part of the services the hotel will offer. We checked in, they were kind enough to allow us to check in about an hour early. The person at the desk failed to mention that they offered free continental breakfast. The toilet in our room was loose, there was a leak under the sink and the automated thermostat was out of order. I mentioned it when we checked out and they seemed genuinely interested. I don't know if they will remodel the rest of the hotel, but you may want to call and check to see that the work is finished before staying there.

  Advertised restaurant and lounge are not built yet. plug in bathroom did not work. refrigerator and air conditioner (needed in davis) - too loud to run. lens covers gone in bathroom ...

  Advertised restaurant and lounge are not built yet. Plug in bathroom did not work. Refrigerator and air conditioner (needed in Davis) - too loud to run. Lens covers gone in bathroom can lights. (Room was duable, but not what one would expect from Howard Johnson. Grounds unkept. Pool light fixture pulled out and lying on side of pool still attached to wires below water level (all weekend). We were unable to use pool, anyway, d/t large party using entire pool area (and small putting green) for entire weekend (many of which did not seem to be guests of the hotel). Hotel is isolated on a frontage road. Overall ...... at least we had a place to stay.

  Our room was unfinished, blinds that didn't close all the way with no curtains to cover, microwave falling apart, hairdryer didn't work, chinsey sheets, hard pillows, baseboard fallin ...

  our room was unfinished, blinds that didn't close all the way with no curtains to cover, microwave falling apart, hairdryer didn't work, chinsey sheets, hard pillows, baseboard fallin off next to closet, need I go on....... and then they charged me $20 extra per night for my little 5 lb dog. ( toy pomeranian) that we even brought a cage for so she wouldn't chance messing anything up. I will never stay there again.

  When we booked this hotel, there was supposed to be a bar & grill and nice rooms. the bar & grill was under renovation, lamp shade broken, no screen on window, outside ...

  When we booked this hotel, there was supposed to be a bar & grill and nice rooms. The Bar & Grill was under renovation, lamp shade broken, no screen on window, outside doors in hallway did not lock, lights in hallway flickered. Not what was expected for the price.

  We were traveling around looking at several college campuses, and stayed in several hotels. By far, the Howard Johnson Davis was the best of them. It was inexpensive, but the room was nice and a good size, the pool was bigger than at other hotels, there was a little putting green and a free business center. Also, the hotel provided a free continental breakfast, plus free coffee all day. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. If we ever return to Davis, and I think we will, since their UC Davis campus was the best we saw, we will stay at this Howard Johnson again.
