My husband and I did not like the hotel at all. It's a shame because it is a really beautiful hotel or was at one time. We moved into a different room room when we first checked in, because it was pretty shabby looking. We didn't like the fact that you have to pay for parking in the hotel's garage! You would figure since that you pay for the room, the parking would be included! It was 22 dollars a day! For people who don't even stay at the hotel, it's 25 dollars a day! It is not in the Pacific Heights area, it's in a shabby area in the city. Don't get me wrong, the hotel wasn't in a really bad area, but it was pretty rough! I was asking on of the ladies at the front desk about how the cable cars run and she gave me a short, curt answer. I thought she was pretty rude. I kind of figured it out for myself. She was not helpful at all! The maids and other employees we saw in the hallways were very nice. They was not even a pen in our room to map out an intinerary! I know they are turning into a hospital, so I guess I don't have to worry about staying here again.

  • Would NOT stay there again!

I stayed there one night and that was enough for me. As soon as we walked into the room, I was disappointed. What is NOT wrong with this room?? The carpet was really dirty and stained, the temp dial to the A/C was all rusty and dirty, the wall paper were pealing off the walls, the house phone didn't work so we had to use our cell phone to call front desk so they can fix our A/C, there were mold in the bathroom ceiling, discoloration in the tub and sink....overall, it was a bad experience. I've been too cheaper hotels that were cleaner. Do not stay here.

  • OK, but rooms need some refurbishing - bathroom & A/C

Hotel location is great if you have a car with you. They have a parking garage. The cost is $* for in & out privileges. I checked other hotels that had "free" parking, but it was limited [first come, first served] and some were lots 3 or more blocks away from hotel. Also, their rates were higher than the Cathedral Hill Hotel rates + cost of parking. As to the refurbishing, the bathroom needed some extra deep cleaning, new caulking, and some broken tiles need to be replaced. The A/C unit needs some work done - cleaning and possibly recharged with freon. If you are without a car and have some difficulty walking long distances, this hotel might not work for you. It's several blocks from cable cars. I don't know about bus schedules. Of course, taxis can be called, but that can get expensive. I like to save my money for the wonderful restaurants in this great city.

  • probably would stay again...the hotel is really cheap,BUT

The hotel is located at the best spot ever, its close to everything. For young people like me(27) that hotel is probably the best deal you can ever get.The housekeepers and front desk staff are really friendly,i CAN'T say the same thing about some of the garage attendants(there is a fat guy that i almost got into a fight). There is a heated pool, and the pool area is nice..the rooms are clean! The hotel has a parking garage, but its not free for the guest of the hotel. You have to pay $ per day if you want to park your car there. The rooms are non-smoking and they will ask you to sign a waver that you agree to pay $ fee if you get caught to smoke in the room.

  • It was okay for the price and location.

When we got there the front desk guy was extremely helpful. There is some great food right across the street, its a quick bus ride down to fisherman's wharf for only $ and its within a 10 minute walk to china town although I would not advise walking back at night. The avenue that the hotel was on was okay but a block down was very rough. The rooms were nothing special. The bed wasn't very comfortable. My wife flipped the breaker in the bathroom and we had to call twice and an hour later our bathroom lights were back on. The elevator was extremely slow in the morning and they only had 2 out of 3 working. The hotel staff as awhole was very friendly. There were homeless people that came and hung out occasionally in front of the hotel to beg for money. I never felt threatened or unsafe though. Pay the money for the shuttle service for the airport, the BART station was a hike. We took the shuttle on the way home.
