  If you've ever stayed a a St. Regis, a Four Seasons or a Ritz Carlton and enjoyed it, don't you dare stay at this hotel no matter who recommends it. You will be sorely disappointed. The staff was very friendly, though the hotel and restaurant are evidently run by complete amateurs.

  My husband and I love visiting San Franciso - we usually go 2 or 3 times a year. And so far, the Clift is in our top 5 hotels to stay. Our check-in was quick and easy. Check-out was even better (via the TV in our room). Although we didnt dine at Cuba, we had a drink at the Redwood Room and really enjoyed the ambiance. Service was ok, but I think typical for a hip SF bar. Definitely not for everyone, but worth a visit (at least to see the bar).

  First of all, the good: Great location and, if you can get in, the Redwood Room is pretty cool - for about ten minutes. Now the bad: The place is designed for hipsters and wannabe hipsters. Same with the staff - they think that by being arrogant and rude that they are part of the scene, but instead they are just arrogant and rude Oh, I almost forgot about the filthy carpets and bathroom and the paper thin walls. And if that's not enough, and it won't be if you're foolish enough to stay here, you'll stay up all night to the sounds of some moron's birthday/batchelor/batchlorette/just-because-it's-Thursday party. Then, when you call the front desk to complain, it will take their faux-ssecurity dudes no fewer than three trips to the offending room to take any kind of definitive action. There are a zillion hotels around this area that are great - and all of them are better than this overpriced dump. Do yourself a favor and just pop in to the Redwood Room, buy a $15 drink, revel in the pretention of the posers who will look at you with disdain, and walk back to your room at the St. Francis. You may not know me, but you'll thank me. Trust me on this one.

  This is a party hotel. I walked into the hotel around 11pm thursday night, and it felt like i just walked into a club or something. I hung out at the bar with a few coworkers a little. The bar is bursting, although the male to female ratio is terrible. At midnight, I helped setup a room for our company meeting on the 15th floor. There was a party going on until midnight. I felt sorry for whoever had rooms around that room.
  
  Hotel is decorated in a cool hip style... But I could tell it is a old hotel, where they just painted the place to look newer. Room is ok. Restrooms are small but clean and functional. TV is old as hell. It is one of those old curved screens. lol... Hotel is in a Good location.
  
  I probably wouldn't stay at this hotel on my own dime. Just because I'm not much of a bar/club/party type of person. I would probably expect a better updated hotel for the price too.

  Rude doormen, horrible snooty hostess at the bar, very un-hip crowd at Redwood Room and paying guests of the hotel are not welcome in. Housekeeping disturbed us FIVE times in one day despite the do not disturb sign and walked in without knocking twice. Horrible tiny bathroom with broken fan and dirty towels. One window wouldn't open and the other took a lot of trying to pry open. Good location but you are much better off at the Sir Francis Drake or the Westin St. Francis. Both have equally central location and friendly staff, clean rooms, spacious etc. Big mistake taking a risk on this place. Morgans should be ashamed to group this with the rest of their hotels. Staff should learn to value the customer rather than acting so self righteous. The best part of this trip was checking out!
