Bed was as hard as a concrete park bench. Smallest closest I've ever seen - about the size of your average gym locker. Good thing they provide an iron, you're going to need it. Bathroom faucet was loose and you had to fiddle with the cold side to get it to shut off, completely. Tiny balconey with no chairs, but plenty of noise (freeway, street straffic, and...TRAINS). Great view, though. Friday and Saturday are wedding party nights, evidently. At least on the 11th floor. Party-hardy until the wee hours of the morning. Hotel staff couldn't care less. Don't spend time looking for the jazz combo or musicians in the "bar" as advertised on their posters in the halls - you won't find any. Oh yeah, the bar. It's just an lobby bar. Someone decided to have a "bring-your-own-everything" home-made buffet for their wedding rehearsal dinner, one night. Left no room for paying guests. We grew up in Ventura and remember when this was a new Holiday Inn, complete with several fine eateries, cocktail lounges, and a revolving restraunt at the top (now de-activated). How sad that it has degenerated to this state. We'll stay just about anywhere else on our next visit.

Stayed here for a business function. The hotel has been remodeled since it became the Crowne Plaza, but it's only the lobby area from what I can see. I stayed in a ""suite"" which was by far the least attractive suite I have ever stayed in. The bed was absolutely horrible, and was like sleeping on a sheet of plywood. The front desk staff was nice enough to knock down the ""suite"" price to the standard room price, but I don't even think that was worth it.

The hotel location is excellent -right on the beach and a short walking distance from the Ventura county Fairgrounds. Three specific issues: We received an unexpected wake-up call at 6 am the first morning there, after arriving late the evening before. When we complained about the call later in the day, no apology was offered. The next unexpected disruption was with the cable. We were watching a movie and at the last 15 minutes, the cable went off with a notice to a number. We contacted the number with no assistance. We called the front desk and they had no explanation or apology. For the rest of the day, the cable was working on and off. The final issue was along the lines of cleanliness. The hotel was remodeled a short 2 years ago (or so). The arms of the counch/seats in the room were stained and the shower head looked like it was about to fall off the wall. We stay here because of the location; if it were not for that, we would probably consider staying elsewhere.

When I arrived, I parked in their small lot and got my parking stub. The desk staff were very friendly, and when I handed them the parking stub for validation they told me I just keep it until checkout and use it to get in and out of the lot. The room was very nice, comfortable beds & great comforters. They give you a nice little welcome kit with lavender spray and a CD, etc. The bathroom is tiny but clean. Ok, now it is time for my much needed rest. About 1/2 hour into my sleep THE LOUDEST TRAIN WHISTLE blared and woke me up. I went out onto my balcony and realized that this luxury hotel is right on the train tracks with a working train which goes by regularly and stops RIGHT AT the hotel, always blowing it's whistle! I went to dinner that night and when I came back there were no parking spaces in their small lot, so I had to park in the parking structure next door and walk to the hotel. Upon checkout, I handed over my parking lot stub and was THEN told I had to PAY for the use of their lot... $ for the two hours I used it!! The clerk advised the lot is marked regarding paying, which I checked after I left, only to find it NOT marked. I ended up having to call and complain to a manager in order to get this fee refunded. I visit Ventura often and normally stay at other hotels which are all great. This hotel was a HUGE disappointment... my stay was nearly a year ago and I thought maybe I just had a unique bad experience... after reading some other reviews I know I am not alone. AVOID THIS HOTEL!!

This was our second visit to the Crowne Plaza. 1-1/2 years ago, they were about 90% complete on the rennovations. The room was a decent size. Beds were comfy. This second visit was nice. The lobby was gorgeous. The first room assigned to us was on the 10th floor and smelled of cigarettes. Called the front desk and was immediately given a room on the 11th floor. Decent size room, and again beds were comfy. Pillows, though, seemed unusually small. This hotel sits right next to the 101 freeway and the train tracks. Amtrak does go by, but come on people, it really isn't that loud. I would not, however, stay on the 11th floor again. The banquet room above us had a party going on. The noise level wasn't too bad. It was the cleaning crew afterwards that made all of the noise!! Tables being dragged across the floor, chairs being tossed here and there. Listen, at 3 in the morning, it's just something I don't want to hear! 11th floor is out for me! What irked me was in making the reservations. Like I said, there was a party, and another function going on that weekend. I was trying to get a second night added to my stay. Since the second night was packed, the person at the reservation desk suggested I call a day in advance to see if someone cancels their stay, that way I can get my second night. When I called reservations back, I was referred to the In-House Sales Dept. Not too sure why, but I left 3 v/m's for Laura there. She never returned a call. All I wanted to know is if a second night would be possible. Wasn't pleased at all with regards to that.
