The Eagle Inn was a good choice . I had a very nice room with a large whirlpool tub. It was located across from the main building and was very private. It was one of their cottage rooms. It was very clean, comfortable and in a good location. The hotel is only a couple of minutes from the beach and about fifteen minutes walk to the center of town. They have a continental breakfast included in the price which I found more than I needed to set me up for the day.The staff were very friendly and were always ready to help with suggestions on what to see and where to go for the day. The bikes that they have for free use to guests was a bonus that I didn't expec.

The Eage Inn is a wonderful find for us because we visit Santa Barbara several times a year to see our son who is attending Santa Barbara university. Every room we've had at the inn over the past 2 years, and there have been several, has been clean, with comfortable bed, lovely bathroom and nice furnishings. If you can get one of their cottage rooms they are really exceptional, I don't think you will get one anywhere in Santa Barbara that's as nice for the price that they charge. The staff are all very friendly and very helpful with ideas for places to see and restaurants to visit. Their breakfast is good, with cereals, bagels, fresh fruit, yoghurt, tea, coffee and orange juice. Help yourself to what you want is the breakfast service. Location is excellent on a quiet street only two minute walk to the beach/harbor.

I am a frequent business traveler to Santa Barbara. Once I found this hotel I stopped looking for any other places to stay. The rooms have been recently remodelled and they have added independent studios behind the main building. The rooms are always clean, many of the rooms have gas fireplaces and jaccuzis. Not bathtub jaccuzis, seperate, large jaccuzis in the main room. They have a light healthy breakfast available as part of the rate with fresh fruit, cereal, bagels and pastries which is a great way to start the day. Though it is not in the middle of downtown, it is two blocks from the beach and the main pier, a short walk downtown and close to the highway it's easy to get to and close to other activities. If you prefer a small more intimate hotel this is the place as I don't mind if I can't get someone at the desk after 10:30. By the time I've had a couple of their fresh chocolate chip cookies at 5:00 all I need is a good meal and a nice room.

Two things you should know: no air conditioning and no elevators. If we had known, we wouldn't have stayed there. After we lugged all our gear up the stairs to the room (we're senior citizens with some health problems), we found that the thermostat on the wall said it was 78 degrees in the room, too hot for sleeping. I looked at the thermostat trying to figure out how to turn on the A/C. It didn't have a setting for A/C, so I called the front desk. They confirmed what I had by then suspected -- no A/C. (The other poster who said the A/C is loud is wrong, there is none. Perhaps they meant the heat.) They offered to bring up a fan and we accepted. We had only made one request when we called to make our reservation -- a quiet room. The problem we had with the fan is that when we opened the door to the balcony for the fan to exhaust the room air, the car noise from the street outside our room kept us awake. And it was too hot to sleep with that door closed. As another poster mentioned, there is no one at the desk after 10:30, so if you arrive (or come back to the hotel) after that time, you have to make arrangements to get in.
