Despite all of the rave reviews on many of the travel websites, we found the Lodge at Vail extremely tired and undeserving of the multiple stars that it tends to receive. Our room was extremely small, had old fixtures, and broken window latches/screens. If it were not for a function that we had to attend at the hotel, we would have checked-out. Should you travel in the summertime and have to stay at the property, make sure not to stay in any rooms on the first floor by the pool. The rooms are without air condition and struggle to cool off. In addition, these rooms are open to the village and do not provide a great deal of security. Finally, the food and beverages are over priced. An a la carte bagel at breakfast ran me $8.00. About the only pluses to the property are the gym and its location in the center of town.

The Lodge is usually way outside our price range but the opportunity to get in on a late season package deal was too good to pass up. We have a wonderful studio room with kitchenette and murphy bed, courteous and attentive staff, and real wood fireplace and balcony all in heart of Vail Village. Amazing location, great to not have to take bus or schlepp skis and boots everyday, luxury! Hot tubs is ""adequate"" but lack of bar service kind of made it overly boring. Mickey's Bar is to be avoided, horrible 70's furnishings and the piano, well, if you're into that sort of thing or like kitsch, go for it! Restaurants, didn't try, way overpriced (not for vail, just for us). Overall, if I could get to stay here again, I would but no way at their rack rate.

Such a wonderful inn, I wish I had had more time to stay longer. Going there is a vacation unto itself. Wonderful location in central Vall. The staff treat you like visiting royalty. I can't imagine a better inn, and I travel a lot!

First of all, this is a nice hotel in a great location. However, Vail is undergoing a 3 year $1 billion dollar renovation. As of July 2006, most of this activity is directly behind the hotel. I was told that construction starts at 7am. Just a heads up to those planning on going to Vail.
