We had a great week at Bolongo Bay during Thanksgiving week 2009. The staff was helpful and kept the beach and rooms clean. Each day they raked the sand and swept off the sidewalks. Snorkeling is great off the rocky point and we took advantage of the wave runners, sailing and Heavenly Days booze cruise with snorkeling. Lisa at Iggie's was great and Laura at the store was very helpful. XYZ greeted us with rum punch when checking in. I went scuba diving with Jessica of the Dive club. Sea turtles abound and you might see a ray or barracuda as well. St. Thomas is a beautiful location and we visited Magen's bay and Lindquist beach as well as two beaches on St. John. This is an older, family owned resort and not a luxury chain. Our room was on the ground floor and we were able to get to the beach in less than 10 steps. The view was beautiful. We participated in the Carnival and Karaoke entertainment nights at Iggie's as well. Kids had fun chasing the iguanas that live on the resort.

Its small, old, in need a a face lift. No elevators, lots a walking and stairs. Reminded me of the old Holiday Inns of the 60's where there were no interior hallways and lots of concrete. An OK place to sleep, but the other services/activities are not worth the price. I was there in off season when prices were 30% off. Had I been there for the all-inclusive, I would have been very disappointed. Expect to pay $8 for a drink and $20 for a basic dinner. Be sure to arrange for taxi in advance and expect to tip the bellman if you want the taxi at a specific time. Some of the staff was friendly and helpful, others were sullen and uninterested in providing service. (But that I found to be true all over the island).

We went to St. Thomas for our honeymoon and stayed at Bolongo Bay. With some of the mixed reviews that we read before booking the inclusive package, I must admit that we were a little skeptical. After staying at Bolongo Bay for six nights, we simply could not understand how this place was receiving some bad reviews. From the moment we arrived at the resort, the staff made us feel so welcome and that they were actually excited to have us. They carried our bags to our room while we were getting settled at the front desk. They even surprised us with a bottle of champagne when they found out it was our honeymoon. Not only do they know how to treat their guests here, but the resort, without a doubt, has to give the best island feel of any resort on the island. You don't feel like you're staying at a corporate hotel resort at Bolongo Bay. If you're looking for something to do at night after the resort bar & grill closes around 11 pm or so , taxi to the Red Hook bar district and go to Duffy's ...they'll make you feel right at home as well. Another thing you have to do is take an island tour of St. Thomas. Our island tour was so much fun and you get to see all the best sites around St. Thomas. The main reason our tour was so memorable was due to our island tour guide. Her name is Delita and we have her number if you wanted to schedule about a two-hour tour that we highly recommend.

We stayed at Bolongo Bay for a neighbor's wedding. We were a little hesitant because some of the reviews weren't very favorable...what a nice surprise we had! We loved the almost secluded feeling we got when we arrived. Check in was quick and efficient. The staff was friendly, courteous and helpful. Our room, while not the most plush, updated one we've ever stayed in, was spotless, with a wonderfully comfortable bed--we were just steps from the beach. The food was great and the drinks were even better! Our party of 25 got a return compliment from the staff at Iggie's...we were the most fun group they've had in the last two years! The only downside items we found: the bugs were bad in the evening (spray was provided for us) and the beach was rocky (water shoes took care of that). All in all, it was a fantastic trip. We would go back again in a heartbeat!

Bolongo Bay or Emerald Beach? We stayed at Bolongo Bay on a Friday evening, cruised on the Wind Spirit for a week, and came back to Emerald Beach. And the winner?by a long shot?Emerald Beach. The staff was nice, but Bolongo Bay needs a lot of freshening. The room was clean and the bed comfortable, but when we turned on the air conditioner, it reeked of cigarette smoke. And the bathroom window didn't open, although many of the neighbors did. The mixed drinks in the bar were so-so, and the ones at Emerald Bay were much better. Food was okay at both. To be fair, you can hear the planes taking off at the airport near Emerald Bay. Two other couples on the Wind Spirit stayed at Bolongo Bay that Friday night, too. One thought it was okay, and the other hated it. Two other couples had stayed at Emerald Beach and they both said they would go back. Plus, Emerald Beach is close to shopping and great restaurants, and it's beach is superb.
