  I have stayed at the Esmeralda 7 times and Dec09 will be my 8th. As far as I am concerned there is no better place to stay on the island then here. The beach is the best in the Caribbean and restaurant row in Grand Case is also the best in the Caribbean. You can spend $200 in a fancy restaurtant or $20 for a scumptious BBQ. The Esmeralda is some 200-300 yards from the beach and every bungalow has its own swimming pool in front. All the staff over the years have been overly friendly and helpful. The rooms are spacious and have all the amenities that one would need including a kichenette. You can drive around the entire island in about 30 minutes. So here is the bottom line. Stay on the quaint French side and party on the Dutch side.

  My husband and I visited St. Martin in June 2008. We had been there a few years before on a cruise and decided to go back for a week because we enjoyed ourselves so much in just one day. It is very easy to get around the island, it is small so you can not really get lost. The roads are not great however so I would recommend a Jeep or something that can get through the poor road conditions. We stayed at the Esmeralda Resort on the French side of the island. It was everything we expected it to be and more. The grounds are kept up, the receptionist was very friendly and helpful. My husband wanted to go on a snokeling and boating excursion and she set everything up for us. Our room was small but very clean and up to date. We had a private pool which was nice when you wanted to relax by yourself. The resort resturant was very good as well. The prices are in euros so that made it kinda expensive, but worth it. The best part was the beach!!! Orient Beach is by far the best one on the island...if you are ok with topless bathers. The resturant staff on the beach was very nice and the food was great. And of course the Guavaberry daiquiris were to die for. The only complaint I had was that he could not keep the drinks coming fast enough. Overall a great experience. I will definatly be back!

  The villas are clean but not fancy. Staff was very accommodating. Rooms were cleaned every day. Beach is but a few yards away and on the end, so its more secluded than the rest. Padded beach chairs and umbrella furnished.Georgeous white, fluffy sand.Cheapest rates late December (a real steal). Nobody there! Water was delightful. Temp in mid 80s. Great trip! Grocery and great restaurants within walking.

• Excellent Beach

  Everything was great . the only thing i would say is that they need to put some softer beds in.the staff was outstanding !!
