As indicated by others, I experienced the same issue of having to pay more in order to check in. I was traveling on business for 10 nights with a club room reserved. After an 11 hour flight from the states, I arrived at the hotel at 10am. I was told rooms were not available until the official 3pm check in time. However, if I paid * pounds, a room would MAGICALLY become available for immediate check in. The front desk would not budge on this - either pay now or wait 5 hours. This is the third time I stayed at this hotel this year. I did not encounter this issue previously. If this is how this hotel is going to treat its business travelers, I'll choose to go elsewhere next time. This is a very poor business model in order to try to generate more revenue. They may have gotten * pounds out of me now, but for my next 10 night trip to London in January (and every quarter), they aren't getting my business anymore. So if you are traveling from the states and arriving in the morning, don't expect to check into this hotel, even if they have rooms ready. You'll have to pay the price to check in early.

Stayed the last two nights of my vacation in an old neighbourhood I am familiar with. The room was lovely as was the staff....EXCEPT...The bar has like five managers around critiquing the ""new employees"" after each statement they made to a guest. The managers kept running around pushing in chairs, and telling employees how they should do things. They made the new employees wear name badges with the name ""TRAINEE"" on them. It was all very degrading. Then they made them close my check every time I ordered a drink or anything. I signed about five bar tabs (once after the first drink, the second, then the appeatizer, then the sandwich, then the after dinner drink). It got so confusing I had to go to the front desk the next morning to find out what I really owed, and did my math. All was okay, but brother...leave a tab open....and stop harping on the employees every time they speak to someone at a table they are serving. I did this two nights in a row, and it was very un-nerving. Those poor kids looked like they were working in a sweat shop or something. Manager count should never excede employee, and more importantly, the total number of guests in the bar. We went next store to the Kensington both nights for snacks and drinks when it got to be too much.

Good place for either business or vacation travel. Fairly close to the underground (three blocks) and close to shopping, eating places, and bus lines. Except for difficulty in getting a taxi, the staff was helpful. Rooms are small, but adequate by London standards. We would use this hotel again.

I have stayed at this hotel on and off for over 10 years; the last time being 3 years ago. The location is excellent as it is only a couple of tube stops from Paddington Station, which is a 15 minute train ride from Heathrow. I was pleased that the level of quality is still there. Rooms are very clean, staff attentive. I upgraded to Club and enjoyed highspeed internet in my room, the lounge and continental breakfast. great choice and good value.
