We were there for 5 nights over Thanksgiving 2009, with a ~1 year old kid. We took the GreyLine shuttle from the Cancun airport: $*/person one way (not the kid). It's about a 30 min drive. Lobby: very nice, open, with greeneries and 2 ponds with little turtles. Food: the buffet place is the Albatros. Many choices, many dishes cooked right then and there. Love the breakfast ! so many choices. Great fresh fruit smoothies, waffles and pancakes, eggs made to order... Waiters bring you coffee/capucino, wine in the evening and at noon. Theme evenings; however, the apetizer bar remains mosly the same (but many choices). The Sports bar above is open 24 hrs and offers fruits, sandwiches and cakes; it came in handy when we arrived, super-late. There are 3 reservations retaurants, but we didn't try them. The beach restaurant/pool bar is Las Gaviolas, and is open to the pool and oversees the beach (serves as Steakhouse in the evening, with reservation). It offers slightly less choices both at breakfast and at lunch, but it's very convenient . We always got a high-chair for the kid. Beach: is quite great ! Not super-large, but we never has a problem to fnd place under a palapa - that said we were there early (~9 am). The sand is white and soft, and was never hot. The beach is kept clean, and a waiter passes for drink orders and to pick up empty glasses. Pool: oh, we loved the pool, it's nice design, it's separate while linked areas... Room: standard. We had 2 double beds, and the baby's crib. There's cable TV, a stocked fridge and a hard liquor cabinet (vodka, rhum, tequila, gin), all included. Overall, waiters were vey nice, but I wish the Reception people were nicer....

Hotel will be a favoriteof mine. My one gripe was my ocean view room was a side view. The next morning the front desk pack me up and move me to a dead center view of the pool and beach!Considering the hurricane showed up on my day two of vacation, I have to say the staff did everything possible to make it a great vacation. Clean large room, good beach, great pool with a swim up bar, daily activities and all the food and drinks you could possible want.

My husband and I just got home from Riu Caribe and we had a blast. Although it rained every day, it was not a wash out. The entertainment was hilarious. They had all the normal stuff, i.e volleyball, water polo etc. the absolute funniest shows we have ever seen. My husband actually had to excuse himself and go out of the theater because he was laughing so hard he was afraid he would disturb the other guests. The personnel would say everything in Spanish and then again in English which was great for those of us who do not speak Spanish. The resort is not the newest but it is well maintained. We met a lot of other Midwesterners which was nice too. I was pleasantly surprised at how nice their beach was. It was nice and sandy both in and out of the water. The only down side was the food, the buffet had only the same choices every day. I am already planning on going back next year. I would highly recommend this resort.

Please make sure you bring your paper work as it was a night mare without it. I tried to use confirmation number and they would not except it. Spent an hour at the front desk trying to straighten the issue out and they actually had my confirmation in their system. Not the way to start a vacation off..... Food was average at best... drinks were not the greatest as they used cheap liquor and mixers. Took as a while to get a good drink.... Pizza was the best and the best drink was the Banna Colda or the Bailys Colda... Views were very nice... Not much to do after 9pm you need to find your own entertainment... Good Luck

My husband and I just spent 7 glorious nights at the Riu Caribe. 10/10 thru 10/17. This was our 4th trip to Cancun and the first stay at the Riu Caribe. We had the best time. The rooms and hotel was very clean, food was better than anticipated and the hotel entertainment was fantastic. The beds were a little firm but we knew this going in. It really did not bother us. We highly recommend this hotel to everyone. We loved it so much we have started looking into coming here again next year!
