  My wife and I went to this hotel for our honeymoon. We didn't have any problems the whole trip. We stayed in a platnium suite and i would say that is the way to go. You have your own conceirge that you can book reservations at the restaurants or the free shuttle to the city with little to no wait. Also in the platinum lounge were four computers with free internet,if you got it in your room it was $70 for the week. The lounge also has a bar and a snack bar. The pools are clean and the bartenders in the swim up bars are very friendly. Our platnium suite had a ocean front view that at night was just amazing and relaxing. There are numurious buffets and restaurants. We went around the first night and they have a menu out in front of the restaurants and we got to see what they served. We ate at buffets for most of the time each night has a different theme and the only thing we would change was all the buffets had the same theme. At night there are gecko's everywhere and so are the bugs. it rained one day and everyone got ate up!! Overall i had a great time!! My wife would like to try another resort next year but i thought this one was terrific. The room was immaculate!!! The room service was good but sort of like frozen dinner style.. Staff was very friendly.. If you go just upgrade to platnium and you wont be dissapointed!!!

• Extremely Disappointing!!

  We visited this property in March 2009. We traveled with our family of six people. The hotel and property were nice, very neat and well kept. Most everything else was extremely disappointing. The buffets were the usual buffet foods, which could keep you satisfied. To dine in the ""fine dining"" was a joke! First to get reservations was nothing short of frustrating; you have to walk to the main lobby which takes about 15 min. then stand in line to try to get a reservation with someone who cannot speak English. Then when we did finally eat there, it was a disappointment. Only a choice of 2 salads, 2 soups, 3 entres, 2 desserts. The food was similar to buffet quality. The websit says this hotel is 3 miles from Playa. I don't know what they consider Play del Carman, the road sign right outside the hotel read 16 Km, I am not sure of the converstion, but that is about 10 miles!! It takes about 20 min. by cab and costs 270 peso one way (we needed a van for 6 people) so round trip was $50. We only went to town once. Which left us feeling a bit ""trapped"" in the resort. They do offer a ""free"" shuttle service, again you must jump through hoops to get it including 24 hours in advance and limited times with the last ride back to the hotel at 6 p.m. The bars had watered down drinks and only Corona beer! And by the way all the outdoor bars close before sundown. Do your research before booking!

• Think again before you select this hotel

  Beware! this is no 5-star hotel. my family recently vacationed at this resort and we were very disappointed. the property is lovely but, that's where it all ends. ...

  Beware! This is no 5-star hotel. My family recently vacationed at this resort and we were very disappointed. The property is lovely but, that's where it all ends. The food iwas terrible. The best restaurant was Miso. The Italian, Swiss and seafood restaurant were embarrasing. The process for getting reservations for dinner each day is deplorable. Come on folks, get your act together. When you make your ""guests"" wait 3 hours in line to book dinner reservations because your computer is down , figure some other way to accomodate them. And, after waiting 3 hours, we were told to come back in another hour and hopefully the computer would be back up. If not, they would not be able to book any reservations for any of the restaurants that day. That means, everyone eats at the lousy (same food every single day) buffet. When I spoke with the concierge about the situation, he didn't want to hear it. Too many other ""guests"" had already spoken with him and he couldn't do a thing. To say he was rude is an understatement. When I told him I 'd never come back to the resort, he said ""good."" Our room reeked of mold. We asked to have our room changed but were told they were at 93% capacity. Ok - how about the 7% that were vacant. The front desk staff was not helpful at all but they sent someone to the room with a can of potpouri. He didn't understand a word of english and left the can and ran.This property lacks the very basics of a good hotel. Management staff needs learn to be customer friendly if they want customers to return. I would not recommend this property to anyone nor would I ever return.

  Had a great time, the buffet food was good, the drinks were better, and the dinners were great, the staff were polite and doing there jobs 24/7 with 1 exception, during 1 dinner at mama mia the food we got was great, it was almost all wrong and the waiter was the problem..... only poor service of the entire stay.... we tried everything, beach, volley ball, pools, bars, massage, buffets, shops, shows, restaurants for dinner, trip to playa del carmen.... can't say enough great overall vacation.
