  To say that my stay was disappointing is an understatement. Our room was spacious but looked and felt dirty and dingy. The paint and plaster was coming off the wall and window area. We also had some tile come up on the restroom floor. Our alarm clock had a stain on it and the television was awful and extreamly out dated. Most disappointing was that when I voiced my concern to the front desk he was dismisive of me and did nothing to make my stay better. While I was in their business center using the computer the employee in the office next door was on the phone with an inappropriate conversation. She was cursing and talking about situations a customer should not have had to listen to. It is safe to say that I will never stay again and I will tell everyone who asks me about it to not stay there.

  I last stayed at the Flatotel about 8 years ago and loved it. Unfortunately, it does not appear that the company that owns it has invested in maintaining it very well. The two working passenger elevators were very slow and received lots of negative comments from the full load of passengers that often seemed annoyed at having to stop at every floor and squeeze a few more guests in. My room was one of the smaller ones they offer and was very dark, even with all the lights on ;a desk lamp, two sconces/reading lamps over the bed and one floor lamp. There was too much mold around the tub area to ignore and the peg meant to hold your bath-towel within reach of the tub/shower was coming out of the wall did not hold anything. There was a coffee maker and small refrigerator but not even a bottle of purified water to greet you. Between the lobby and the elevators, there was a "security" desk that had a sign proclaiming it the Room Key Check desk, but I never saw anyone actually at the desk, even when I arrived late in the evening - 11:00 or later. On the positive side, everyone I had to deal with on staff went out of their way to be helpful, but I will not return to the Flatotel until I hear they have undergone an updating.

  good location, good price, but wouldn't call it a four star hotel. Air conditioning in room was anemic (tolerable the first night when it was cooler from having rained, totally inadequate second night), No desk or chair in room (could sit on padded top on drawer unit at foot of bed. Fine for changing your shoes, but that's about all). Sink and shower drained slow. Tub had once been a jacuzzi tub and where the old water intake had been plugged, there was brown gunk (either glue or something growing, I didn't touch it to find out). Spacious room. Ironing board, no iron. No in-room coffee service, but coffee and tea in lobby in the AM. Nice lobby, staff seemed fine. Felt secure.

  Everything was clean from the entrance all the way to your room. Now the room was real nice. I was really suprised. Microwave oven, fridge, jaccuzzi tub and tile bathroom. Even has FREE fresh fruit at the entrance. The hotel staff was very nice. You are in walking distance of all the action, Time Square, 30 Rock, Today Show, Radio City Music Hall, Central Park, the Port, and much more. I will keep using the Flatotel for my future trips to the BIG APPLE. I rate my trip a TEN thanks to Flatotel and Travel website.
