  The staff, location and gilded-age feeling of opulence from the gilded age makes this grand hotel very worthy of your hard-earned money. I have stayed here 5 times so far this year for extended visits. The reason I go nowhere else: The staff makes me feel tremendously at home here. Paul, one of the desk staff is a friend, as is the hotel's ultra-personable Roberta. So are the other fine staff. If you want to enjoy the phenomenal party scene along State Street, the down-to-earth magic that Binghamton offers from since long ago, the Antiques, Arts or Sports, The Restaurants, deeply-discounted shopping, or just half-way stop between Toronto and New York, you'll a feel a tonfeel better staying here than the chrome and glass of other chains.   It was a vile place dirty very noisy, several bars across the street kept me up until closing - and this was a wed night and the staff did not impress -

• Old World Charm

  We stopped here on the way back home from a trip to Niagara Falls. The hotel was a bit tricky to find, our Garmin helped a great deal. The hotel is in the middle of the government center of downtown. City Hall is across the street surrounded by a civil war monument. (A Real Throwback!) There are british style pubs and ale houses on the other side of the hotel. The front checkin desk was once a judges bench. The ninute you walk in the door you feel as if you stepped back in time. From the 20 foot cielings, mahogany railings and victorian furniture, you are part of a pioneering country. The halls to the rooms upstairs are lined with the old black and white photos of past mayors of Binghamton and you can ask to stay in what was once the mayor's office. I peeked into the Ballroom and the chandelier alone was worth the look-see. Your room will have 10 or 12 foot ceilings and wooden windows. The bed was not very uptodate, but the bathroom, tv, refridgerator, and microwave were all in very clean, working order. For the age of the building, I think they are doing a great job in keeping it as a working hotel. Breakfast was fresh and welcoming in the lobby in the morning. They had fresh fruit, bagels and muffins, waffles, coffee and juices. The staff was friendly and helpful. We would stop here again.

  This place is a gem! it has history and sophistication - i loved everything except the quality of my mattress!! my room overlooked a fabulous judicious quarter....yet out the back ...

  This place is a gem! It has history and sophistication - I loved everything except the quality of my mattress!! My room overlooked a fabulous judicious quarter....yet out the back door (where the hotel entrance is) there was the fast paced bar scene! How very perfect!

  Beautikul old hotel,available at a better rate than cookie cutter motels. even though we got in at midnight,the staff was great.

  BEAUTIKUL OLD HOTEL,AVAILABLE AT A BETTER RATE THAN COOKIE CUTTER MOTELS. EVEN THOUGH WE GOT IN AT MIDNIGHT,THE STAFF WAS GREAT.
