  I would only give it 3 stars. Would I book a stay at the Empire again... yes- but not my first choice. I was left with the impression that the staff seemed unimaginative, and at times completely inflexible, at resolving a problem with a shuttle reservation that I made through them but that they failed to make on my behalf. The room wasn't ready at check-in time despite a 3 hour check-out to check-in time window. It's good that I wasn't seeking any type of compensation for the troubles because none was ever offered or suggested. I live in L.A. and booked a trip to N.Y. for my sister (ATL) for her birthday present. Booked 3 1/2 weeks in advance. The next day upgraded to a deluxe smoking room with 2 double beds. Made shuttle reservations from and to the airport via the hotel where I was told that she would simply need to give her name at the Airlink Shuttle booth and her roundtrip tickets would be waiting for her. They weren't. When I spoke the concierge they said that there was nothing that they could do and that she would have to pay for the shuttle herself... and she did. She arrived at the hotel around noon (check-in is 3pm) and at 3:30pm her room was still unavailable and no idea how soon it would be- so she, understandably, took the only available smoking room with a single king size bed for her and her friend rather than wait for her room.

  This was my first trip to nyc & the empire was beyond expectations. courteous, clean, the bed was more comfortable than my grandmothers feather bed (absolutely no bed bugs), ...

  This was my first trip to NYC & the Empire was beyond expectations. Courteous, clean, the bed was more comfortable than my grandmothers feather bed (absolutely no bed bugs), great location to see all of the city. The rooftop bar is a must see with the neon "Hotel Empire" casting an ambience of "You are here" The buck stops here, book nowhere else.
