  This small hotel has one of the best locations in NY--a short walk to the Park, 5th Avenue, Broadway and the subway for more remote areas. There are decent to excellent restaurants within a three block radius, but it is a tourist area with the typical tourist traps. The suites are somewhat inconsistant in furnishings due to updates at different times. Some are new and fresh and others are down on their heels. I would avoid the suites that face the back of the building since the cooking exhaust fans from at least two restaurants waft up greasy food odors. Overall, I would recommend this hotel particularly to families or a party of three; because there are two separate rooms, two TV's, and a small kitchen. The suites were formerly apartments so it feels more like home; than a hotel room.

  Booked through HOTWIRE at a very good price. The first room was dated and dismal!
  The front desk offered a suite for a small additional amount. The suite was huge and
  very nicely decorated. (One large bedroom, large living room w/ full kitchen). Everything was very clean. The bathroom had just been updated. The new bath vanity actually touched the
  edge of the toilet. Sitting on the toilet was a tight squeeze, even for the little folks. Still the suite was beautiful and we enjoyed our stay.
  
  This hotel is very convenient to Carnegie Hall, Central Park, Fifth Ave shopping, Broadway
  Theatre, and Times Square. The Buckingham is genuine New York. Despite its quirks/age,
  I enjoyed my visit and would recommend this hotel. I strongly recommend upgrading to
  a suite.
