When my family and I arrived at this hotel I had reserved for two nights (June 27th & 28th) we were shocked at the neighborhood. There was a stripped van directly across the street on one corner and a junkyard on the other corner with corrogated walls and junk stacked above the level of the walls. When I entered the building two scantilly clad females were walking down the stairs exiting the building. When I asked the manager if the building was safe he assurred me that it was. When I asked him where I could park he pointed to the street and indicated I could park next to the stripped van. At that point, I informed him I would not feel safe having my family stay in the hotel and requested to cancel the reservation and receive a refund. The manager indicated he would cancel the reservation imediately but could not authorize a refund only travel website could. I subsequently called the phone number on the travel website confirmation and was informed by the customer service person that the Comfort Inn had already been paid and there was nothing that could be done. I then had to find another room for two nights that night (Holiday Inn La Guardia) which cost me over $$$ (plus parking). I believe you should not be doing business with a company which operates this kind of establishment.

The hotel is located in Long Island City just 1 subway stop away from Manhattan. Subway stop is only 3 minutes walking from hotel. So, if you are a tourist visiting NYC -don't think twice!!!! And don't worry about the subway- it's very reliable, safe and cheap way to get to Manhattan and all attractions NYC has to offer! Also, if you decide to take taxi - it will cost you approximate 12-15$ ( depending on traffic) from Rockefeller Center to the hotel. ( For instance, our ride from Penn Station/34 street were 16 $ with tips.) Hotel had free wireless internet that worked just fine. Also, there was a complimentary continental breakfast, which included coffee, tea, hard boiled eggs, toasts, fresh pastry, instant oatmeal and selection of cereals. Hotel staff were knowledgeable and friendly. Our room was non-smoking with king- sized bed and free cable. The room was tiny though, but hey, it's New York! All in all, it was a pleasant stay and completely worth money we payed for!

We traveled from Germany to NYC and found this hotel by the reviews it was given. I was not disappointed. It was clean, friendly staff and felt very safe. The subway station was less than a block away and it was in a quiet area. Though the view is not great, it was only a few stops from Times Square. It was the best deal ever. Manhattan is off the charts in prices, you can stay here for a fraction of the price. I was satisfied with the breakfast. Very standard with boiled eggs, cereal, pastries etc. There are only 5 tables in the eating area so get up a decent time. We always were lucky had a table. We were allowed to keeps our luggage there while touring the area before check in. The staff was so courteous and helpful. The rooms were clean, beds comfortable and bathroom was ok. The rooms are small, but not terribly cramped. Perfect for a crashing site. There is taxi service, but it is a $25.00 fee. We had not problem purchasing subway day pass at the airport of La Guardia for $7.50. We took the M60 Bus to Astoria and then hopped on the subway to our drop off. You can see the Comfort Inn sign from the station.
