The place may be right off of I-35, but it's surrounded by cheap motels, so the place is only good for maybe $ per night, not $. My reservation claimed a queen-sized bed, but it turned out slightly bigger than a twin-sized bed - you can't even call it a double-sized bed, it's that tiny! I called the front desk and they said, ""that IS our queen-sized bed!"" My fault for not contacting online on the spot, because it was just one night, I'd rather spend more time out on the town. The walls are paper-thin - could easily hear people talk outside, and the birds start waking you up before 6am (not a morning person...) I chose it because of the relative location to 6th street and something < $. Should have stayed in north Austin at much better places for around the same price.

We just spent 3 nights at the LaQuinta, Oltorf. It was very clean and nicely decorated. I was surprised at how quiet our interior room was. It's next to I-35 and we never heard any traffic noise. Entrance to the corridor required a key so it was secure. The location worked great, we could get all over the city easily. The Terrazza restaurant, next door, had terrific crispy tacos and enchiladas. I'll stay here and eat here again. a happy traveler

We requested a non-smoking room; I don't know if there weren't any available, but our room reeked of old cigarette smoke. Our friends had a room by the pool and reported their room smelled like mildew. I found crumbs on the floor from the last occupants, hair in the bathroom, and weird stains on the walls of the bedroom and on the underside of the bedspread. The scary thing is that out of the three hotel rooms that our friends and we booked, ours was the nicest room. A group of our friends stayed in a "suite" and had no garbage can and no hangers (and the hangers they were later given didn't fit the rod). The sink area seemed recently redone, so that was nice. The faucet in the bathtub was skewed and looked as if I could pull it off the wall. We had limited exposure to the staff and cleaning personnel, so I can't comment in detail, but they seemed friendly and helpful in the brief interactions we had with them.
