The place was very neat. We stayed in a studio with kitchenette and it was very handy. It was just a block away from the Waikiki beach. Convenient to grocery stores and to public transportation. Highly recommend this hotel if you are travelling to HNL with kids.

We came for our first visit to Hawaii for a nephew's wedding and our 30th anniversary, staying a week, January 2009. Staff was very friendly and helpful, property was very clean every where. Our kitchenette unit and all the public areas were pleasant and well-decorated. Marble tile floors in rooms were much cleaner than carpets! The location is great for a quick walk to the wide /Waikiki Beach thru Ft. DeRussy Park which surrounds the hotel on 3 sides--also making it quiet. Shopping was an easy walk to east up Kalakaua Ave., as was Duke's Canoe Club for Sunday entertainment. Tip: When stocking your kitchenette, hold out for a Foodland store, Food Pantry close in was very expensive!

We booked a studio for our 10-day stay. The room had a queen-size bed and a sofa-sleeper. The mattress was on a platform with drawers under it. The drawers were great for storing all the treasures we bought. The sofa gave us a place to sit and relax, (didn't have to sit on the bed.) The cool floors were marble/granite were great for the warm temperatures. The kitchen allowed us to have small meals and snacks when we didn't want to go out. The hotel is at the beginning of the Waikiki strip so we didn't have to contend with the pedestrian and automobile traffic. The parking area is below the hotel and some parking spaces are difficult to maneuver. The three elevators were slow to respond. (We were on the tenth, of sixteen floors.) There were two occasions when the elevator went in the opposite direction we thought it was going. Taking the elevator to and from the garage was slow and annoying. The elevators were a bother but that was the worst of it. The room was great and the staff was wonderful, including the housekeepers. We would stay there again.

I was happy with the Luana. It was well-situated, within walking distance to the beach, restaurants, and the Bus line. It is right across from the dollar car-rental and the bus line. The room was clean, the pool was clean, and it apparently was nearly empty. Most of the other hotels were not full but this one seemed to be almost empty, considering it has 16 floors. We were there at election time so maybe that was part of the reason. The tourist office has closed but there is one across the street at the Maile High. No restaurant either but again, a Thai place for breakfast just across the street.
