We were in only in Hilo one night until traveling to the other side of the island, but this hotel was very nice. There is a great park right out side the hotel and beautiful views of the bay and mountains.

All the hotels on the Hilo side of Hawaii, Hawaii are older and most appear in the process of some type of remodeling. The Hilo Hawaiian is very pretty and has a wonderful view of the Hilo Bay. There were beautiful pictures to be taken around the bay. The lobby is undergoing remodeling but not to the point of obstruction or interference of daily activities. The rooms are adequate in size and needs. The staff was very friendly and informative and responded quickly to any calls for extra things for the room. After the initial fall back into time on arrival, I feel you'll enjoy your stay here. And yes, I could return and stay here in the future.

We have stayed at the Hilo Hawaiian several times in the past few years. It is clean but by no means fancy. I would say it is closer to a two star than a three star hotel.

Room was clean and adequate for two night stay. View of Hilo bay was beautiful. We could watch the cruise ships and barges, children swimming at Coconut Island and people fishing. The pool was clean and nice, although a little hard to find as there are no signs. We ate two breakfasts and one dinner at the restaurant. Noticed an odd smell one night, but it was gone the next day. Food was very good and service was fine. All the staff from the front desk to housekeeping were very friendly and nice. Convenient to Volcanoes park if you want to drive yourself. Parking in the volcanoes at some attractions can be a challenge, but still worth driving yourself so you can take your time. Take time to visit town of Volcano. The Lava Rock cafe has good food and there is a great quilt shop. Rainbow falls is a short drive away and so is Mauna Loa--chocolate mac ice cream-yummy!! Would stay here again.
