My family and I absolutely love this resort! This was our second visit as we stayed a year ago at the same time. The grounds and artwork are stunning. The resort is always immaculate. Housekeeping was attentive to every request. Our teenagers never wanted to leave the grounds as they enjoyed the pools, particularly, the waterfall pool. The Kings and Queens Shops are close for shopping, meals, and groceries. I highly recommend a drive into Kona to the Farmer's Market for fresh fruit at incredible prices. The Business Center provided complimentary printing of Airline Boarding Passes. The Manager hosted a Welcome reception which was delightful. The only thing that would make this area more perfect would be more restaurants close to the resort for variety. We can't wait for our next visit to this heavenly location!

Great Hotel - But YOu Must Like Walking!

We stayed 11/13/09 to 11/17/09. Amazing hotel, very beautiful grounds, amazing art (you can view in the hallways), nice room, nice staff, & amazing pools. However, be prepared to walk some distance or wait for the tram or boat. All food is expensive there (as expected). However, a "best buy" there is the buffet at Water's Edge Ballroom... very good & fresh fruit very delicious. Gasoline about $1/gallon more than mainland. If you are a CostCo member, gasoline is about 50 cents less per gallon. Don't miss Hapuna Beach, about 8 miles north of the hotel. About 2 miles away, there are small shopping centers (Queen's village, especially). Having said all above, when we go again to Hawaii we would not stay here again due to the long walking distances or tram waits... but definitely at least try once!

Too Big!

My family and I stayed there on a pretty busy weekend. I have a 4 year old and a 1 year old. We got a room in the lagoon tower. It was great to overlook the dolphin area, my son loved it. The walk to the room seemed so far... and to my surprise that was the closest area of rooms to the lobby. Thank GOD I brought my stroller because trying to go anywhere was such a long distance that even my 4 year old complained. The Grand staircase is pretty, but as you can imagine with a stroller and 2 kids, its really difficult to go up and down it (you need to use the grand staircase to cross over to the pool from the lobby). We got lost really easily and we also got stuck on the other side of the property. I decided to take my kids on a ride on the monorail. Well, without warning, when we got to the ocean tower the rail operator said this rail is shutting down and the next will be by in 10 minutes. So there we were stuck on the opposite side of the resort. Its too far to walk with the kids and we ended up waiting 15+ minutes for the next rail. Room service was okay, but pretty expensive. The store by the pool with the pizza area and hotdogs is very expensive! I dont think I'd stay here again. Nice place, but way too big and expensive.

The grounds were wonderful....lots of walking but you could take the train or boat across the grounds... The restaurants/food was terrible and overpriced. Service in the restaurants was not good.... and when we wanted to stay an additional night they wanted over double the amount that we paid for a night.... and the hotel was emply...... staff was not friendly....I don't think we would stay there again...... The pools were great.... the area is remote so there are not many places to eat in the evening..... everything closes at 8pm....

We spent seven nights at this resort. It is enormous, with lots to explore and do. Our room on the second floor of the Ocean Tower had a great view. Although we had a very enjoyable week, we would probably not choose this resort next time. As other reviewers have noted, it is a major excursion to venture from your room to the parking lot, or even to the lobby. Each time we left the hotel, we counted on 20-30 minutes each way, to and from our car. And even with the monorail and boat shuttles, there is lots and lots of walking. As other reviewers have also correctly noted, there is not really a beach at this location (although the pools are wonderful). The food was so-so, and quite overpriced. We would not necessarily recommend the luau, which seemed to us just a Hawaiian version of other similar shows we've seen in other countries around the world. The luau food was okay, but nothing spectacular, especially considering the hefty price.
