My husband and I just returned from a long weekend in Fort Lauderdale as part of a tour group to see the Patriots play at Miami. This hotel was one of the 4 options in the tour package, and we weren't sure what to expect although it looked nice on line. The Pelican was beautiful and we just loved it. The hotel has the feel of an old Florida home. The room was huge, and the view was spectacular! The lazy river is the most relaxing way to chill out in a pool. The staff could not have been more attentive. We did a lot of walking as it is a bit out of the way, but we preferred the quieter location. We hated to leave, but we will definitely go back.

  • OK place

Just got back from a 4 day trip to the Pelican. The room I booked was not the room I got, they were sold out for the weekend so I was stuck in a semi ocean view room. still paid for the oceanview. The restaurant was very very expensive $* for a steak that was worth about $* all meals were overpriced as were the drinks, the portions were big and most of the food was pretty good but way overpriced. The hotel is not located near anything but the beach. Nothing is in walking distance. For what we paid, I would never stay at the Pelican again. It looks great on line but it's not all that. There were 2 weddings at the hotel saturday night, the lobby held one of them weird; so it seemed strange to be walking around it shorts while people were in gowns and suits.... the hotel does not notify guest about the functions either. The pool was slammed with kids - yelling and screaching all day. The beach was better however getting a chair is another story. They ran out of towels 2 of the 4 days we were there. They also made us were wrist bands because so many locals crash the hotel on the holiday weekend, but no one paid any attention to whether you had it on or not because 50% of the people at the pool did not have a bracelet.

  • BE CAREFUL SINCE travel on line REMOVES NEGATIVE REVIEWS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    08/20/2009

Since i did stay here and had a bad experienceand wrote a bad review to my surprise travel on line removed it, so be wary of all the good reviews ...

SINCE I DID STAY HERE AND HAD A BAD EXPERIENCEAND WROTE A BAD REVIEW TO MY SURPRISE travel on line REMOVED IT, SO BE WARY OF ALL THE GOOD REVIEWS PEOPLE.THE HOTEL IS SET UP WITH PUBLIC ACESS TO ROOMS SO IT ISNT VERY SAFE , SINCE I HAD PEOPLE BANGING ON MY DOOR IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT SEVERAL TIMES AND NOT BEING ABLE TO SEE THEM AND GIVING SECURITY SEVERAL CALLS WITH NO ACTION. BE CAREFUL. IN USING THE POOL WHICH IS VERY NICE WE COULD NOT ENJOY THE LAZY RIVER BECAUSE THE MANAGEMENT DID NOT STOP IT FRON BEING USED AS A LAP POOL FOR ALL THE KIDS THAT WERE THERE. THE HOTEL ISNT HORRIBLE BUT WHEN YOU HAVE NO MEETING /BANQUET ROOMS SO THEY HOLD FUNCTIONS IN THE LOBBY WHERE YOU CHECK IN SO YOU CANT EVEN USE IT TO ENTERTAIN YOU GUESTS THAT IS A MAJOR PROBLEM.. IF YOU GO THERE YOU WILL SEE FOR YOURSELF...

Update to the review that I posted last month..... Although I still believe the Pelican is a great resort with a lot to offer, there is an assinine management policy in place there that people should be aware of. It concerns the use of their facilities if you're not a registered guest, even if you pay their outrageous poolside food and beverage prices. We enjoyed the Pelican last month, and decided to spend another night there when my in-laws came into town for a visit. We were unable to get reservations for 4 adults and 1 child in one room, so we booked at the hotel right next door. This hotel is in the middle of adding a restaurant to their premises, so we decided to walk to the Pelican and order food from there. We spent $ (gratuity automatically included) for 4 burgers, chicken fingers for my daughter, two cokes and three pina coladas. That's it folks... $! My daughter was getting ancy waiting for the food, so we both used the pool until the food arrived, which the waitor noticed. He made the point, albeit politely, that management "is cracking down" on unregistered guests using the pool. I was so taken back that, unfortunately, I didn't take his explananation to task and question if that would include a paying customer being charged double for what undoubtedly would cost you anywhere else. I felt embarrassed in front of my in-laws, and after the money that I dropped their last month, in addition to what I was paying this time, I would seriously rethink staying there or ordering anything there again. No one used their towels or lounge chairs, we just swam in a pool for 15 minutes.
