We arrived on the train, eager for a real bed! We were offered a room with a frig and microwave. It was appealing and clean but had the odor of a past cigar. When we asked for a change, the desk clerk immediately responded and we were given another room equally appealing w/o the extra appliances and w/o the odor. We were happy, as we did not expect those anyway. While there an athletic team also stayed - and there was no noise coming through to our room at all as might be expected of young people! The breakfast was fine. The pool was refreshing and was accessible without going through the lobby. We would definitely give this hotel a thumbs up and stay again.

I'm big on fruit and protein for breakfast, and Great Northern has a great selection for every picky eater. The staff was excellent--they switched our rooms to be in the same building as the pool as soon as they saw the kids without us having to ask. The pool was a little cool for my kids, ages 2 and 5, and their 4 and 7 year old cousins, but the hot tub was big enough to splash around in and warm up again. The pool depth is good for the 5 and 7 year old, though--they could touch for about half the pool. There is a casino built into the swim area, which is NOT a plus. However, the kids didn't seem to notice it, and the casino was sealed off from the pool so that the smoke didn't reach us. Noise was not a problem for us, we did have a room on the front side (but we're used to trains). Discounting train noise, the hotel is very quiet. Wireless access is easily accessible. If you are getting a hotel for the pool, I'd go with AmericInn, but this is a close second thanks to the breakfast and service.

We stayed one night and were very happy. The staff, particularly the manager, was very accomodating and helped with nearby museums, etc. The room was very clean, and breakfast was the usual continental, but good. The only negative-request a room in the front of the hotel, as the rear is near the railroad (this is a railroad town) .
