We wanted to take our 3 and 5 year old for their first ski vacation to Deep Creek. We have stayed at many Choice Hotels Points membership, however, this place is an embarrassment to the quality we've come to expect, especially in a relatively upscale resort area. I should say, however, staff was very professional, friendly, and welcoming. When I called the morning of our reservation for the 1 bedroom suite with two adults, two kids, they informed me don't allow kids in those rooms, but, honored since made through online travel. The "kitchen" consisted of one sink, small dorm-style fridge, and a microwave. The bedroom was upstairs in the room, but, the most disgusting experience we had was the bathroom. As you walk in, it's obvious there have been several patch jobs to keep the walls from rotting away. There was a HUGE red jacquzzi tub, with four stairs to get into...surrounded by mirrors. Seedy looking, not what we expected in this posh location. The faucet leaks water along the rim of the tub, causing more rotting drywall. The mirror was smeared with what I suppose was an effort by the housekeeping to clean whatever was on the mirror before we got there...or possibly by using the same rag they attempted to clean the film off whatever was in the tub, and unfortunately, still evidently in the tub. Disgusting. We called the concierge, they scheduled the housekeeper to clean first thing when they got in. Unfortunately, the tub, is also the only shower in the room. Housekeeping did not arrive before we left for skiing, so no showers that morning. Tub was very difficult to get into and out of. Very disappointing, but, location was excellent for skiing. Hotel Desk person explained new owner is beginning renovations. Hope it helps.

I travel to McHenry several times a year and find that while this is a convenient place to stay it is certainly not up to the standards for an area that is an upscale resort area. The rooms are OK but overpriced. I would stay here again but realize it is mainly because the choices and availability in the area is limited.

The mattress and pillow were many years old and blood stained. The mattress was INFESTED with bed bugs, so they moved me to a smoking room (only thing available) and I felt like I needed an oxygen chamber by the morning. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to my very worst enemy.

The hotel smelled horrible; the bed pillows were flat and stained from perspiration/saliva; the floors appeared not to have been swept for weeks. The hotel is remodeling, but the pillows and floors should have been a WHOLE LOT BETTER. We have stayed in a lot of places, but this is by far the worst. Don't waste your money or time.
