    We stayed over-night. Our room smelled like bug spray, there were stains on the sheets and pillow cases, and there were stray hairs on the tub that were there when we arrived. The pool bottom was slimy. The hotel needs to work on its cleanliness.

    When we arrived (at 11:00 pm or so), we were first given a smoking room even though we had made a no-smoking reservation, so we had to move.

    The entire property seemed run-down. There is no landscaping, only paved parking lot. The pool did not "sparkle" and wasn't inviting. White resin pool furniture needed a good scrubbing.

    "Free continental breakfast" consists of pre-packaged muffins & bagels, coffee, & an orange juice drink (similar to Sunny-D). Not good for diabetics, located in the very small office.

    Sheets on one bed were wrong side out for both nights that we were there, suggesting that sheets were not changed.

    Persons on-duty tried to be helpful, but were not successful. I was very put-off hearing the manager call a contact number of some sort to get in touch with a staff member who was late, and "tell her to bring in **** as well."

    We were booked for 8 nights, with the rate to increase by 25% on the 4th night. On our 3rd day (after 2 nights), after we saw the pool, we moved to a different hotel (next door, much nicer, lower rate than even the 1st three nights at Econo Lodge). Because we didn't see the pool, which was the final straw until early afternoon, we missed the 11:00 check-out and were charged for that night as well. The room had not yet been cleaned.

    Overall, very disappointing.

    North Fort Myers is a great place to stay - Red Sox & Twins spring training, Ford/Edison homes, numerous museums. We liked it much better than Fort Myers Beach area - less honky-tonk, less crowded. Regardless of where you stay, check internet for theater & concert schedules, art festivals. Sanibel & Captiva are nice day trips, especially Bell Refuge.
