We stayed here the summer of '08 and we couldn't be happier with the price and location. We took the shuttle bus at the Bergen Airport that takes you the SAS Radisson Royal Hotel also near the water, and we got off there since it was one of the stops; then, we walked 4 blocks from there to our hotel. Be careful, as there are a few Thon hotels! Bryygen is pronounced-Brew...gehn. We experienced friendly service, a comfortable room ( not huge nor luxurious), and a great full breakfast. The short walk to the waterfront area was perfect. The next day we took a short cab to the train station. We could have walked but we had a lot of heavy luggage. We wished we had more time than one day in Bergen; we would have stayed in the same location longer. Be prepared for one of the most expensive countries!

My wife and I stayed at this hotel in the summer of 2007. It was very conveniently located to Bryggen and all the happening places at the marina. Clean, budget hotel with courteous staff. Room was small but overall good value for the money. We only spent the nights there as Bergen and the surrounding fjiords kept us active for the entire stay. We recommend it for your couples on the go. If you want to lounge in a hotel, there are other places with more luxurious offerings.
