This hotel is well located in the Plaka district and has received many positive ratings. Returned from a cruise with great expectations; unfortunately was disappointed greatly. The building is stunning , impressive lobby and restaurant, nicely done courtyard, and pleasing colors. although some of the furnishings are showing wear. Check in was after a cruise in late morning., No rooms were available, we were made to wait for 2 1/2 hours for a room even though other guests arriving later were given rooms before us. The room ( standard double) , had a view of the back alley , The beds were the most uncomfortable hotel beds I have experienced in the past ten years. They are the standard twin beds pushed together with a gap between the mattresses . The mattress itself was a poorly padded innerspring type with a severe crown in the middle. It felt as though you were sleeping on lumpy cardboard. It was impossible to get comfortable. The air conditioning was anemic even in fairly cool outside temperatures, it is also controlled by your room key so that if you forget and take your key you will return to very warm room. Sound deadening seemed to be minimal . We were able to hear plumbing sounds from what sounded like a central utility conduit all night long as well as the occupants in adjacent rooms . The heated pool in the spa was frigid and the whirlpool was part of the pool, also frigid. The attendant indifferent. Would only recommend this hotel to those who are impressed with public spaces, reputation and location . Room comfort is not an apparent high priority here.

I was in Athens twice, once in August and again in Sept. The Electra Palace was priced at the same price as the other hotel I stayed in, but over-all was a much better quality if that's what you are looking for. The location is excellent, a 5 minute walk from bus, taxi and train station in the heart of the historic district. The room was cool and the temps outside were very hot. The view of the Acropolis is clearly mesmerizing. It also has a pool on the upstairs terrace. A computer/printer was provided in the lobby with 20 minutes free...helpful when printing a boarding pass. I did recommend it to a fellow traveler in Istanbul. They have a 5 star quality restaurant if you want to treat yourself to an expensive meal. The hotel tends to fill up, so don't hesitate if you get a chance to stay there.

Stayed at the hotel in late April/early May 2009 - located on a quiet street (not easy to find in central Athens) just a five-minute walk to Syntagma Square and to the Plaka - safe walk, but you'll be annoyed passing the New York Bar each night up the street as the hookers call to you from the inside and the owners are on the street corners inviting you inside - rooms aren't four-star (but then neither are the rates) but very comfortable and clean (I'm in the hotel industry, but none of our properties are in Athens itself) - terrific breakfast will get each day going well - the staff is very professional and have gone to the trouble to learn English to further their hospitality - some school groups were there last spring but were perfectly mannered - hallway carpeting is a little tired, but that's not a deal-breaker - small but terrific indoor pool; too bad the spa had limited hours, but those may be expanded during formal tourist season -- my partner and I just scheduled another vacation trip to Athens in late September and this is where we'll be staying -- can't ask for more of an endorsement than that

This hotel was over the top in everything I can think of the staff was wonderful & extremely helpful in pointing out important areas not to be missed. Our room had a great view from the balcony of the Acropolis, and was especially beautiful at night from the room and the garden top restaurant (which was also great). Breakfast was quick and delicious, staff in this area were cordial and helpful. There was a taxi strike and the hotel helped us secure transportation to the airport so we didn't have any problems getting to our flight to the Greek Islands. I would recommend this hotel without reservation and certainly hope we can stay there again the the future.
