I have stayed in many hotels, and this is by far my favorite! The small suite has a sitting area, and then the room. The shower does not have shampoo bottles, but a dispenser instead. The gardens were just GORGEOUS! and the pool (not talking about the hot tub) was actually warm! I went on a cold day, and enjoyed a swim! The people are very friendly. When you walk in they give you directions to your room, and tell you how to get to breakfast in the morning.... speaking of breakfast, the free breakfast buffet was just wonderful. Sausage, potatoes, cereals, eggs, pancakes, toast, and so much more is included. They also have several types of teas as well as milk, orange juice, and hot chocolate. The beds are very comfortable, and the sheets were very clean. I couldn't hear anything through the walls, and the stay was enjoyable. A fireplace and duraflame log is also included in the stay. You may even get to see deer out your window! The one down is the long walk through the gardens just to get to breakfast (depending where your at). The gardens and the hotel both are very secluded, but you still seem to feel safe. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Stayed in room 411. Negatives: Room smelled musty (or moldy); there were bugs in the bathroom. The bed was nothing special; the pillows were cheap.Could hear every step the people upstairs took and when they flushed the toilet. Positives: the patio was nice, the grounds beautiful and the restrauant was very nice (although pricey). The staff also answered our questions and was nice to deal with. The only way I would stay again is to pony up the extra $$ for a better room. Guess you get what you pay for!!

My wife and I booked a king sized room with fireplace & forest view room with the dinner & breakfast included. Upon arrival the front desk clerk was unanimated and disinterested in doing anything but getting us out of his space. We had to ask for a map and directions to where the room was on the 5 acre complex. Once at our room we found that we were housed in one of three two story buildings on the east side of the complex. It appeared clean, quiet and adequate. The grounds (gardens) are beautiful and relaxing to walk in. Dinner at their restaurant was outstanding! My wife had a fillet ($29) and I had the NY steak($22). The package we booked (DInner Escape) included our entrees, a bottle of house wine (white zinfindel was very good). No appaiser or salad was included which was disappointing. The steaks were absolutely perfect and the salads were equally good. After dinner we retired to our room, lit our Duraflame log and relaxed- until the neighbors moved in above us. Memories of living in our first apartment 25 years ago flooded back as the thump! thump! thump! of footsteps were very annoying. Finally around 11pm there was quiet and we enjoyed the night until 6am when the neighbors awoke and began thumping above us. Then about 6:30 am the tour bus fired up and an army of tourists began yelling and milling about for the next half hour. IF you want to book here, PLEASE ask for a superior room and be sure it is single story, not part of the 3 lodges that are two stories. I would HIGHLY recommend the restaurant for dinner, not breakfast though. We hope this helps and educates other travelers.

Nice place but crammed full of bus loads of geezers on way to Hearst Castle. Paper thin walls and doors. Can hear conversations on the balcony entry. Couldn't sleep beyond 6 when the bus riders screamed to each other about where to leave their luggage for pick up and who was having breakfast with whom. Shame that the management doesn't monitor the noise because it is a decent motel. Second time I have stayed here and it will be the last time.

This hotel/lodge is nestled in some very well maintained and interesting gardens. The less expensive rooms are nothing too special, but the larger ones are nice. The staff was very helpful, and when we had some noises in the morning, they moved us to a better room the next night while they investigated. The pool is well maintained and clean. The walk to Cambria down the path was interesting, but don't try it with a stroller (it is a stariway, not a path!) The Kitchen garden where they grow organic food for the restaurant was very nice to see. The complimentary breakfast was very good, plenty to eat, and not just rolls and coffee, a full buffet breakfast. A littel pricey, but a better deal than the beach front hotels/motels.
