We were very disappointed with our 3 night stay at Cranwell. Although the grounds were beautiful the room needed an overhaul. The bathroom shower had black mold growing in it and when we called they said housekeeping would take care of this. Although it was better after they cleaned with bleach there were still mold growing...I didn't even go near the jacuzzi tub! The rug was tattered and worn and the room noisy with the water pipes running through the bedroom wall so all night you heard anyone using the bathroom. Given that the room rates start at $* per night I expected the room to be spotless. The staff seemed unconcerned when I again spoke to them about the mold. I won't go back!

My family and I stayed at the Cranwell this past weekend. The staff were uniformly friendly and helpfull . The grounds were lovely with great views of the Berkshires. The proshop was helpfull in getting golf lessons, T time and tennis reservations . The food was exquisite throughout, especially dinner at their main dining room in the Mansion. The resort was full and, as such, we initially had only one night booked. We wanted to extend the stay an additional night before heading to Maine for several days and the resort was quite accommodating by providing a room that although had one less bed would accommodate us with a cot. The rooms were fairly average but clean and comfortable. What we found exceeding annoying was being charged for everything but walking around at what is listed as a luxury resort. Depite a charge of * per night for the room, we were billed 5 dollars for the cot. The tennis court was quite nice and clay, but they charged 16 dollars for court time (although 1 1/2 hours; all were in use). Since we forgot our tennis raquets, another 5 dollars to rent old and mediocore raquets. They "slipped" in a golf cart rental that was never discussed nor used, despite that our golf outing had three people and the cart was only for two. Apparently, you have a mandatory cart rental if you play before 3 (we played well after 5). Also, you can not play only 9 holes, you pay for the full 18; although your rates are discounted after 3, which they did acknowledge. Upon leaving and reviewing the bill, we discovered erroneous charges from oher guests attributed to our room number. The resort has many attributes, just watch for the cheese that accompanies your wine selection.
