My wife and I had a short stay here while visiting the big island in January. Given the premium price point, we had high - but not unreasonable -expectations. We've stayed in accommodations ranging from Motel 6's to luxury suites and all I expect is a decent value for my hard earned dollars. One problem involved the ground transportation. Upon arrival at the Kona Airport, a van driver holding a Kona Village Resort sign and who appeared to be the resort's courtesy van driver said he would take us to the resort. After a ten minute drive, he told us that we owed him $36 (more than a 1-day car rental). He clearly had some sort of agreement with the resort, but he never indicated that the ride was not complimentary. IAnother annoyance involved the use of the beach recreation equipment. Their brochure and website clearly state that use of non-motorized equipment is included free of charge. However, when I inquired about using a two-seater outrigger canoe, the staff informed me that it would cost me $125. When I informed the clerk that I only wanted to use it for about one hour, she told me it would still cost $125, although I would be able to use it for the length of our 4 day stay. At this point, I was feeling less like a guest and more like a mark. But the final insult was the food. While the breakfasts were quite good (we never sampled the lunches due to sight-seeing), the dinners were not the premium quality I was expecting. I've had much better meals aboard a Carnival Cruise line cruise which cost about $100 per day.

Was married in the village back in 1984. I guess I have been spoiled. I will not go to any other place in Hawaii now. Not even interested in giving another place a try. Been with parents when I was a teen, honeymooned there, took kids there for 15 year anniversary and now taking new husband. He doesn't mind... probably tired of hearing how wonderful it is. Really can't pick one thing that I like the most. I guess just the idea of being tucked away in paradise with no one to bug ya! The dining room in the evening with the sunset is breathtaking. The manta reys come into the cove about that time to say hi to all the visitors. The kids loved swimming with the sea turtles and my youngest son even cried on the flight home because he missed everything already. Unfortunately, very pricy and unable to go as much as I wanted, but definately a place to save up for. You won't be dissapointed!

Honestly, I must say this was worth the money spent! Every penny of it! This was a truly hawaiian experience!!! The staff were very very nice. The only thing I should comment would be that the food at the restaurants was about the same each night. I should tell you that I was there for 7 nights and by the 5th night I kind of got bored of the same food! Overall, it was a TRIP OF A LIFETIME!!!!!!!"

3 words: I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!it was my 10 time to hawaii and never have i stayed in a place as relaxing and beautiful as this. If you come you wont regret it! The private hales are gorgeous, most with ocean front views, literally right next to the water, not 30 yards away!! The friday night luau is spectacular and its a must see! Did i forget to mention that there are green sea turtles that come right up on the beach to lay eggs! You have to come to Kona Village Resort! Its the best in all of Hawaii!!!
