It was pretty much what we expected from the other reviews--a little run down but with a wonderful staff. We were on a wing that they had just shampood all the carpets, which probably helped. Apparently they are due for a major renovation, and with the quality of the staff, it will definitely be worth checking it out. Until then, if you need a cheap place to stay, this is certainly a viable option.

Rotting, Run-Down Hovel of a Hotel

Unquestionably one of the most outdated, dilapidated, maintenance-defered major-brand hotels I've ever stayed in. Nothing (other than electronic door locks) appears to have been changed or updated at this property in the last 30+ years. At this price point I wasn't expecting the Ritz, but I also wasn't expecting cobwebs in every corner of the room, wallpaper and paint peeling off every wall and the ceiling. Lots of mold on the shower curtain in the (judging from the lime-green color scheme) 70's-era bathroom. So many stains and debris of unknown origin in the carpeting of the room that I didn't dare walk around barefoot. The once-red hallway carpeting is so deeply caked with dirt that it's now gray, and you could see clouds of dust rise up when kids ran down the hall. Alarm function on the (60's-era) clock radio turned out to not work, so I overslept and ended up missing the first part of the meeting I was in town to attend. Located deep in a corner lot at the end of a dark and lonely dead-end freeway frontage road, the place was positively creepy at night. Perhaps OK for some low-expectation travelers, but it still isn't budget-priced and in hindsight I would have preferred to sleep in my car.

I guess I wasn't expecting much out of this hotel because of the previous reviews I read on this site but I was very pleasantly surprised. I paid approx. $50 for the room and didn't see any bug infestation problem like a previous reviewer ran into. The room was clean and the hotel is in a quiet location. The pool area was excellent in my opinion. The floor wasn't slimy and the water was nice and clear and not excessively chlorinated. My whole family liked this hotel much better than the Days Inn that we stayed at the previous night.

Friendly and helpful staff, spacious & clean rooms, quiet, big pool and whirpool area, free continental breakfast, all for less than $50.00 per night. I stayed 5 nights on business. Only downside I could find was in-room TV seemed small with only a dozen or so channels and local channels came in snowy. Also, I would rate the continental breakfast average at best, and there was no variety in the daily selections. But the positives far outway the negatives. Would I pick it for a romantic getaway? Probably not. Would I stay there with family or again on a business trip? You bet. For the price and the amenities, it will be tough to beat in the Madison area.
