I usually use the Hilton chain, but I was pleasantly surprised by the Residence Inn. The rooms were comfortable with kitchenettes and large bathrooms. Some of the studio rooms have fireplaces and multiple TVs, but all have pull-out sofa sleepers for additional beds. The complementary breakfast buffeet was more than sufficient with both hot and cold offerings to suit a variety of tastes. The pool (outdoor) was pretty cold and the kids couldn't swim for more than a few minutes. Also, there's no hot tub. But the location is great. Close to Mall of America, only about 10 minutes from Valley Fair and not much farther to the Minnesota Renaissance Festival. If you stay there, get pizza delivery from Sarpinos just down the street! There's a Cub Foods closeby too - just south of the interstate behind the Best Buy - if you'd rather cook yourself. The kitchenette has dishes, pots, pans, everything you'd need.

Best Value For Families Visiting the Twin Cities

We have stayed at this Residence Inn every year for the past seven or eight years, staying for three nights each time. The rooms are very clean and spacious, especially the bi-level penthouse suites. There are three phones and televisions, a full kitchen, a fireplace and TWO bathrooms, which come in handy when you are traveling with a family. If you are not familiar with this Residence Inn, there are 8 units per building. We have never had ""noisy neighbors"" and can hardly hear when others come and go out of the building. The rooms were all updated a couple of years ago and don't resemble typical hotel rooms. The rooms look more like someone's home, and it is easy for us to feel at home when we stay here. The breakfast is adequate; not a gourmet meal by any means, but there are plenty of choices and we alll always can find what we want to eat. We've used the free internet. The buildings are all secure-you have to have a key to get into your building, so there aren't any others roaming through your hallways. The beds are comfortable, and since they renovated, the living room furniture is too. The location is convenient-it only takes a few minutes to get to Mall Of America, the HHH Metrodome, or the Vikings' Winter Park, which is just down the street. It is fairly close to Eden Prairie Center Mall, which usually has nearly everything we want to shop for. About the only negatives would be that the pool is an outdoor one and there is no hot tub. If they were to move the pool indoors and add a hot tub, this place would be the perfect home away from home.
