I was traveling through Charleston on a motorcycle trip. I initially chose this hotel based on the listing of restaurants in the features section. The list implies that these restaurants are close. Because I thought these restaurants were close, I figured the area couldn't be that bad. Boy was I WRONG! And they were wrong for representing the hotel as being close to these restaurants. It's very misleading, so don't be fooled. Nothing is in walking distance, not a single restaurant, and the neighborhood is BAD! If you want to visit the power plant, you can walk to it. If you want to roll the dice and see if you can walk to the gas station down the street, go ahead, give it a shot. There is no way in heck I'd stay at this place.

The lady at the reception desk was courteous and prompt to check us in. We had no problem at all. The room was clean and the bathroom had plenty of towels and GREAT hot water. Did not hear to much from other rooms. The breakfast was satisfying - no complaints. Check out on Sunday with no problems. Would stay again.

The hotel is adjacent to two major freight/coal train lines (google-map it w satellite). These will keep you up even if you are not so lucky as to find a dried up prophylactic in your bed.
Our reservation was for a room with two queens. This was unavailable and so they offered us a suite that had a fold out bed. (The trick with fold out beds is YOU DON'T PUT SHEETS ON THEM UNTIL YOU'RE READY TO USE THEM!). Otherwise, food, pubes, and dried up propylactics can/did/and do fall into the couch cracks and surprise your 4 year old when he's ready to get into bed.
This system needs to change.
Oh, and the "non-smoking" floor was so non-smoky that was could literally see it in the air curling around the lights. When asked if the floor was non-smoking, the staff responded "People will do what people will do." Needless to say, I would like to quote Lightning McQueen from the Cars movie: "Somebody Help Me!! I'm stuck in hill-billy hell!"
It is however, true, that they do put on a very nice breakfast complete with a make it yourself waffle iron. (Only good thing about it.) -

Our stay was much better than I expected for the small cost we paid. Check-in was at 3:00pm and check-out was at 11:00am. Chose to go to a resteraunt for breakfast and staff was very accommodating with providing us with what was nearby and directions. I will definitely stay with Wingate by Wyndham again. (Hopefully the others in the chain are as clean and courteous!)
