Wow, what a hotel. We stayed here for 5 days, originally booking a garden view room overlooking the garden pool. Not a bad accomodation, but the front desk offered to upgrade us to full ocean view room for $*/night. We accepted. The ocean view room is phenomenal. 180 degree panoramic view of the south sea, you can practically see Antarctica. If given the option, try to stay on the west wing of the hotel, there are no kids or pools over there but you still get the great view. On site Activities planner (I guess the concierge is different) was great, the meal coupon for a free breakfast was good too. The Gym sucked, but who cares. There is so much to do on the island I wasn't very concerned with the gym. We actually went to the Hyatt to tour one of their rooms. While the accomodations are a little bit nicer, I wouldn't pay a dime more to stay there. I would definately stay here given the opportunity again.

We just returned from Kaui. This hotel was breath taking, especially if you stay in the garden view rooms...buildings 6,7 or 4. We had a ground level, with patio. Did not hear noise above us. Wallked out to a lovely garden with sounds of waterfall, birds, and an occasional rooster crow.( yes @ 5am some days, but hey...you're in Kaui. Get up and hit the beach!) 2 outstanding restaurants, Shells & Japanese. However, the breakfast at Shells is pricey. To avoid, the hotel offers ""No Tidy,we Treat"" Place the card from the night stand each nite before bed and you will get a FREE buffet breakfast. We only had maid service 1 day, and a free buffet 3 days. On Tuesday nite, Shells offers a great Prime Rib dinner. The Japanese dinner was de-lious!! Fresh. The Point Grill however was pricey for what you got. Most of the time we searched out ""local"" dining places. Service throughout the hotel was very good. Everyone friendly. We plan on staying here next year.

We stayed at the Sheraton in early April and really enjoyed it. We started out in the partial ocean view room, but when we found a big cricket in the room they upgraded us to full ocean view for free. Ocean view rooms are much nicer, and the view is great. Room ratings based on ocean view. Not much nightlife at this hotel, or on this island in general. Everybody is pretty much in their room by 9:00pm. We didn't eat much at the hotel as we were generally out doing things. We did have their breakfast buffet each day, which was excellent, although a little pricey, at $20/person. There are also some decent restaurants right up the road in ""old-town Koloa"", not real high-end but some good local flavor. We also heard the beach house down the road was good, although we didn't make it there in the few days we had. We were on Kauai for 3 days, and then in Oahu (Waikiki beach) for 4 days. These two islands are very different. Kauai has the natural beauty and some really unbelievable views, although the waves on the beaches tend to be pretty rough for swimming. Oahu has the nightlife and always has something to do, and the beaches are a lot more ""beginner friendly"", with gentle waves and shallow water. The pools and hot-tub at the Sheraton were small but decent. They say they close at 9:00pm, although we used them until 10:00 or 11:00 and nobody bothered us. The torches at night add a special touch of the island. The tennis courts were also decent. The staff were friendly, and we booked a couple tours through the travel desk. Be careful of the Napali beach boat tour. It was beautiful but VERY rough. Bring your dramamine.

We (family of 4 with two active boys) just came back from a week in Kauai. The hotel is in a perfect location. The beach area, the point, and the monk seals are the attractions. It is also a great area to start a morning walk. The hotel grounds are large and beautifully maintained. The staff was accomodating. Upon arrival ,we received a warm welcome with leis. The hotel room was clean, decorated nicely, and up to date. Yet, our garden view room was small for a two double bed hotel room. There is no armoire or dresser to put clothes in for four people. So, we used the shelf above the closet. The garden view room, 4th floor, Building 4, had a beautiful view overlooking the ponds and the ocean in the distance. Although the short walk to the ocean was across the road between the ocean wing and the garden wing, it wasn't an issue with us. The pool by the ocean is fine. It has two levels and a slide for the kids. The jacuzzui is ridiculously small. The outdoor bar area had various lunch items, fruit, great smoothies and alcoholic beverages. The Shells restaurant was a bust! We had a beautiful view but the food was way overpriced, and just ok. The kids eat free is ""the lure"". Don't take it. Instead, eat at ""The Point"" which is right next door. The food is better, the service is good and the view is just as nice. We also ate at Keioke's /sp?/ in the Whalers Village which was excellent - great assortment of fresh fish, great atmosphere, and children's meals are $6.00.
