I've stayed at this hotel twice in the last two years. Good hotel for the price. The English skills of the staff are marginal at best, so you'd do well to have a working knowledge of rudamentary Spanish before checiking in. (Of course, there is virtually no English anywhere in Monterrey--since it's not an American tourist destination--which is exactly why we like to go there.) Anyway, the hotel is clean, and the service is responsive. We had one problem during our stay: the wall safe in our room didn't work, but we called the front desk and within five minutes there were two people in our room replacing the safe. The restaurant in the hotel is surprisingly high priced, and remained virtually empty the entire time we were there. Not sure how they're making any money on that. For food we stuck with modest restaurants, and bought fruit, yogurt etc. at one of the local grocery stores. (The Soriana chain is best, along with the few H-E-B stores around which were also excellent.) Also, the hotel is only one block from a stop at the surprisingly efficient Monterrey subway system. We rode all over the city on the subway, and were delivered, in effect, right back at our front door. A real plus. The rooms in the hotel weren't very large, but this is good mid-sized hotel. (We paid $58 per night plus taxes...about $70 per night) and felt completely safe. The water out of the bathroom tap was fine to drink.

The hotel is in a great location and just a short walk to all the wonderful things the Gran Plaza has to offer. The staff were very nice and always attentive. The rooms and all common areas were well kept and very clean.

We actually stayed for a week in July of 2006. My son got married in the cathedral just 4 blocks to the east of the hotel. He married a Monterrey native and they now live in Lansing, KS. The hotel staff was extremely courteous and helpful. I drove a 15 passenger van down and the parking garage was too small, but they accomodated us in the check-in area where they had a small 6-8 space parking lot. One night we got back late, and the spots were taken, so they let us park in front of their gift shop and the van was watched all night by the attendant. The food in the buffet was pretty good, maybe a little pricey by Mexican standards. We ate breakfast there a couple of mornings, and went out the rest. We only ate dinner the first night, and it was ok, but was also a little pricey by Mexican standards. I got the best exchange rate by paying with dollars in the 7-11 on the corner by the hotel. I noticed another reviewer suggested Cola de Caballo falls, and I concur, it is a nice trip with beautiful scenery.

This hotel was awesome... free internet (wired).. so if you book someplace else and need internet remember you may get charged an extra $* per day... the internet is free and fast and I use it with Skype to call back home to avoid expensive cell roaming. The staff speaks English. Security at bottom of hotel. It is right on Morelos Street which is closed off for shops and restaurants. Lots to do within walking distance. The food is excellent and has 24 hour room service. My room only had a stand up shower, no bath tub. Not sure if all the rooms are like that.. the bathroom is lacking counter space.. however for the price I can't complain. I'm booking this hotel for my next trip to Monterrey. Make sure you check out Cola de Caballo waterfalls.. I paid a taxi driver near the sheraton hotel (walking distance) $* Pesos ($* US dollars) and he took me there and back for 2 hours with stop at shops, views, etc along the way. It was a better taxi than most of the green ones. The 3 story gay club called Parking is in walking distance.
