Having stayed at Hawthorn Suites before, my expectations were high. While the outside of the hotel looks new, the inside is well worn. Our carpet did look new but the furnishings were old. The bed was the nearly the worst we've ever had. The mattresses were as cheap and thin as you could get. We had a queen bed but they must've tried putting full size on them as the top sheet barely covered the horrible mattress. I tried and tried to pull it down further with no luck. My bedside lamp was missing the turn knob. I'd forgotten to print out directions so we called as we got near. The front desk girl had no idea how to give directions and we went a good 1/2 hour out of our way - so be sure to have your own directions. On a positive note, the breakfast was very good, the staff was nice and overall cleanliness was good. It is located far from any interstate though and this is a big factor when I book a business trip. There is a good authentic Mexican restaurant right down the road called El Matador, which was very good.

Staff was extremely polite and accomodating. Arrived late and asked for late checkout. After clerk got managers ok, everything was fine. Short stay, nice hotel and I stay there again if I have to visit again; otherwise the city itself was a nightmare.

The hotel was a great find close to my son's new home. Most of the hotels in Decatur were 8 miles away and this one was less then 2 and nice. The breakfast buffet was a delightful surprise. The food actually tasted homemade. Very happy to have found such a nice, warm friendly place to stay when you can't actually stay with family."
