Poor Customer service

No compensation given when we had to defer check-in for several hours due to a water leak. The delay caused us great inconvenience in our birthday weekend plans. Elevator didn't work after we checked in and no one available to help with luggage to 4th floor room. We tried to talk to management, but not available on site. Followed with a letter to express our concern about the staff's handling of our discomfort, but no reply. Wrote to IHG Guest Relations who forwarded letter to local management...still no response from hotel. All of the guests this particular weekend were upset as it was a holiday for which many had made plans far in advance. A small gesture of making sure that our bags were in our rooms and a drink in the bar while we waited would have made a huge difference in the attitudes of guests. Our complaint is not with the rooms, but with the staff. The water break was unfortunate and I'm sure had the staff flustered, but when you are in the SERVICE business, guests should not be made to feel that we are an inconvenience! We will no longer book rooms at Holiday Inn Express. There are many other choices.

This hotel is in the heart of downtown Deadwood, making it possible to walk to all the casino's and shops. The room was adequately sized, and my husband and I loved that there were pillows labeled "soft" and "firm" so we didn't spend time beating them to find the right one to sleep on! The bathroom was a thing of beauty. Granite counter tops, a large tub.shower, fluffy towels, and great products provided! The free morning breakfast was also good, with eggs, rolls, coffee and cold cereal. Plenty to start the day.
