  The Nara Hotel main building is a beautiful 1909 structure with lots of wood and 20's furnishings. The emperor stays there! There is a newer building with less character. Location is perfect within a short walk of the deer park, pagodas and Naramachi restaurants. Hotel is pricey but get a $50 discount with a Japan Rail Pass. Excellent service, stuffy but atmospheric.
