Given the opportunity to travel without our children we researched where to go and stay. People I spoke to always said that Barbados was their favorite island when cruising and the internet reviews of Fairmont Royal Pavilion were very high. It surpassed our expectations! The hotel was lovely. All rooms are entered off of courtyards on the east side of the building, so all of the rooms face west to the Caribbean Sea. Walls of your room extend to the end of your patio so the rooms/patios are very private. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was pretty and spacious, the patio is hot but lovely to lie out on at night. You will leave still hearing the lapping of the sea on the shore! Food at the Fairmont restaurants Palm Terrace and Cafe Taboras was excellent, loved all of the fish dishes. Palm Terrace has live nightly entertainment, go in for a drink and enjoy the music, all of the groups were terrific, it was so relaxing. Bring a magazine or a book to Cafe Taboras and enjoy tea from 3:30 - 5pm, my favorite time of the day, little sandwiches and scones delivered to your table with tea, coffee or iced tea with simple syrup (yummy!) Their rum punch was delicious.My husband loved the ice cold Banks beer $4 at Juju's next door.The beach was beautiful you have to swim out to the white raft and enjoy the breeze! We rode public/private buses & taxis, visited St. Nicholas Abbey, Crane Beach, went surfing at Zed's, ate in Holetown & St. Lawrence Gap, Jammin catamaran cruise (Tiami/Cool Runnings heard were good). The people on the island were very nice. The staff at the Fairmont was excellent. Everyone was pleasant, helpful and friendly. We loved everything! Truly relaxing & fun!

Hard to believe that they could have done a better job at service. The grounds are beautiful and the dining was above average. However, the rooms and bath are small. Biting insects were a problem and you must leave the grounds for entertainment and activities.
