We stayed in condo room 303 and loved it. The condo was clean and spacious. Each room had a ceiling fan and an air conditoner was in the living room. We never used the air conditoner. The breeze blew through the condo and kept it nice and cool. We loved the ocean view. The condo is located about halfway down a dead end road and so there wasn't a lot of traffic. It isn't located in the busiest area of Maui so it was quiet and had fewer people, however it is located in an area that made traveling to any place in Maui easy. Check in and check out was easy. I loved having the washer and dryer there in the condo to use as needed. All the appliances were modern and easy to use. The pool area and outdoor cookers were cleaned daily. We did notice that some local residents of Maui were coming to use the pool during the day. It was never crowded at the pool and we only used it in the evening hours so it wasn't a problem for us. I feel like the office clerk would have handled this problem if we had complained. The office clerk was very helpful in giving us information about what tourist activites were good to see and getting tickets. Donuts and coffee are served every Friday morning which was nice and gave us a chance to meet others staying there. Our only complaint was that there was not a hair dryer available in the room. It seems like hair dryers are available these days in even the cheapest of hotels. It would have been nice to have beach towels available also. We will definitely stay at Island Sands again the next time we go to Maui.

Island Sands is a good option if you are looking for an inexpensive, basic place to stay. We were pleased with the fully equipped kitchen, including everything we needed to cook our meals plus a dishwasher and washer/dryer. It was very clean, nicely decorated, and had a beautiful view of the water. However, there are a few things I would have liked to know before I booked. One is that this place is kind of out of the way. You will need a car if you want to do any sightseeing other than the aquarium. Although it is on the water, you don't have direct beach access from the property and have to walk several blocks to get to the beach. Not a huge deal, but from the pictures it looks like you can get to the beach right from your front door. If you like going to the beach at any time other than early morning and late evening, you will need to drive to Kihei or Lahaina, because the wind in Maalaea makes the beaches there very unpleasant for most of the day. Also, there is a small pool but NO HOT TUB. The layout of the condos is great, with 2 bedrooms and 2 full baths. However, we were disappointed that there was only 1 full size bed - the other room had 2 twins. Good for a family with kids, but not for adults traveling together. Overall, I think this is a great place for folks on a budget who want to stay somewhere quiet and are planning to drive to see different beaches and sights. Also, the nearby aquarium is not to be missed.

We chose Island Sands because we did not want to be in your typical high density tourist condo. Island Sands is located in Maalaea. Close enough to everything, but far enough away to not fee like you are part of the heard.
