The hotel should be closed down. The rooms were dingy, there were massive cobwebs in the lounge, and the indoor pool and gym looked like they hadn't been updated (or cleaned) in 20 years. Over all, the hotel gave off a Bates Motel sort of vibe. Perhaps that's what they were going for considering the shuttle driver insisted on badgering us with ghost stories about the hotel. And if you are thinking of making a quick escape, think again. There are no local taxis, and ones from Kansas city charge $* one way. That's if you can convince them to come. Ours canceled at the last minute. As for local attractions, there's Wabash around the corner; a tiny BBQ joint with decent food and reasonable prices. Other than that... if you're willing to brave the three mile, sidewalk-less highway into town, there's the Wal-Mart, AutoZone and Applebee?s. Perhaps our group has been too spoiled by plush resorts and city living, but for this traveler, The Elms is a definite flop.

The Elms is a nice place to stay, however, price for area is a bit steep, and lack of entertainment as it once had is in need of improvement. Menu was good, but a bit expensive unless you did the Sunday brunch. Like to see more live entertainment for the Hotel to give guest a more relaxing stay.
