I booked for a Eugene, Oregon hotel room and got this for $* for a night before a flight out. For that price the room was great -- however, this remainder of this review will assume that I paid the actual list price which is much higher. The lobby of the hotel was very nice: there was a lit fire, comfortable seating, access to a restaurant, and a friendly staff at the check-in desk. The inn is laid out in a slightly confusing pattern -- but we were lucky enough to get a king room on the first floor -- with the noted advantage of access to the parking lot via sliding glass doors to make packing and unpacking luggage easier. The room was large for motel room standards. It was comfortably appointed -- included a love seat, chair, coffee table, desk, office chair, armoire, and a side table in addition to the king bed. The bathroom was decent -- and had a large area to hang clothes as well as a full-sized ironing board and iron. There was also a "real" hair dryer and a coffee maker. The decor was alright -- slightly run down and outdated -- but I found the room to be clean. My husband was disgusted that there were quite a few gnats flying around the room -- I am not sure what that was all about -- but there were quite a lot of the buggers. Other concerns were that the sliding glass door was extremely hard to open or close -- and it turned out that it was actually off the track. Not exactly the safest thing. OK for $* bucks -- but I would have been salty if I had paid the going rate for his room.

Upon arriving at our assigned room I was shocked at the 3 Star rating and the evaluations from other customers. After reading their reviews, I was looking forward to our visit. We were put in a room that had been sprayed with some type of floral spray to mask the odors. The carpet was filthy. The tub/shower tile had mold on it. The map of the facility is very difficult to follow. We had to sign a waver stating that the hotel was not responsible for any damage to our vehicle, any valuables left in it and our room and any valuables left in it. There was no blanket provided for the bed, only a sheet and an obviously over-used bedspread. Paying * for this room was a total rip off. There was no indication where to find ice, and the refrigerator that apparently once was in the room had been removed.

After reading previous reviews I expected a good visit. What a shock to walk in and discover the carpet was filthy; there were bugs on the floor; the blanket on the bed hadn't been washed in months; and there was mold on the bathroom tiles. The $149 charged for this 3 star property is outrageous for the quality. The map of the facility is extremely difficult to follow. There are no indications whatsoever as to where to find ice. There once was a refrigerator in the room, but that had been removed. We were required to sign a waver for any damage to our vehicle or anything left in our room.

For our Anniversary we went to the U of O football game and decided to say at the Valley River Inn that evening. The Valley River Inn offers a shuttle over to the stadium and back to the hotel for a minimal fee. This made the arrival & departure from the game very easy. The room was very nice and we had a wonderful stay.

Even though the hotel allows dogs we never heard one baking. The staff was helpful and friendly. The restaurant was delicious and had a great view of the river. If you have a room overlooking the river, it doesn?t get any better than that. The rooms need to be updated and the carpet is too old for my liking, but if you get a room in the courtyard building they are better with new comforters. They have a very nice outdoor pool but it is not heated so keep that in mind if you have kids.
