We can say nothing bad about Carambola, and my wife is VERY particular. It is the best for R&R, but don't go to party except for the Friday night Pirates Buffet. There's a band plays R&B/Motown, a jammin DJ, and the Jumbie show. Service was great. Views are spectacular. Food was comparable to your chain steakhouse in price and quality. Plenty good enough for the price. There isn't anything to keep teens happy either. It's R&R for adults. It is very isolated, so get a Jeep or taxi fares will kill you. Make sure you arrive with plenty of daylight if you're driving. It's a good drive with bad signage. The diving from the beach was a little murky due to high surf, but was still very good. The swimming beach is small but very nice. The wife wanted to go to the Bucaneer, but I booked Carambola just from reading other reviews. When we visited the Buc, she said I made the right choice. The Buc is beautiful, but spread out, and more of a 5 star attitude. Friendly, but formal. Carambola is just "cozier". We went to St Thomas for a day trip on Seaborne Air for shopping. We did zero shopping in STX. Just rode around in the jeep, checked out the beach bars, explored, and lounged. Our entire trip went off without a single problem.. The whole experience was awesome! We are going back to Carambola. Oh, did I say that we loved it?

I brought my two teenage daughters with me for a quiet week. The Carambola was perfect. Our room was large - with a full size fridge and microwave, so we were able to awaken when we pleased and have cereal on our veranda overlooking the sea. The resort has a nice swimming beach and great shoreline. We hiked to the laggon, swam and snorkled in the sea, exercized in the exercise room and ate at the restaurant for three dinners. My youngest took a resort scuba course, and she was out on the wall within one hour. This is a relaxed and beautiful resorrt on the tropical side of the island, not on the desert side. If you want to explore the island, you really must rent a car. Bu, that is easy because many will deliver right to the resort. For the price, this is a great place. Very kind people and a magnificent location, especially if you like a quiet beach.

we were there from 8/2 to 8/8 , loved the room, walking to the beach not so much, great diving!!!! came face to face with a barracuda, big sucker too a good 5' plus, about 8 min. north of the beach, it drops, it goes from 35' to ????? I was able to get a ride from where the dive shop is to the beach, its only like 300 feet but it was nice to get a ride with all the tanks and weights etc.food was plain, typical bar food, but just a few minutes away you have sum great places to eat, off the wall was our fav. were from NYC so Pizza was nice! the resort was great overall, we stayed at one of the newer rooms upper ,but they are on the east side of the resort the beach is on the west side, I got killed with bites from ants, poison ivy!! but I was't careful and I didt use a bug spray, my wife and kid dint get NOT one bite, staff was very friendly, had a little issue with the spa lady, at the counter RENTING A CAR IS A MUST it was $386 for a jeep wrangler, well worth it if you want to go into town, dive, eat out! explore the island, just the taxi ride from and too the airport its going to cost you so u do the math, we took a sea plane to St. thomas, just for the day, got two rolex watches saved a few k! if you r looking for a timepiece go to St. thomas!!!!! I would love to go back to carambola, the island is beautiful, the resort was great, if your looking to party and hangout meet ppl, this is not the place!

This was our 3rd trip to STX and I was excited about our first stay here. I was not dissapointed at all. The room was great, service was excellent (Tim at the bar especialy) and the grounds were perfect. Pool needs a lttile work but still ok. If you are staying here it is wise to rent a Jeep and explore its half the fun. We are already making plans for next year at Carambola. Make sure you take advantage of the snorkling gear at the Dive shop. Can't wait to go back to Carambola.

Returned home June 11 2009. Arrived early at the hotel - no problem able to check in right away. No light outside the room or remote for television - no problem taken care of immediatley. Room right on the beach. The ocean was warm and clear - beaches soft white sand. You must go to the Pirates Buffet on Friday night. You will not be disappointed! We ate in the hotel restaurant twice on the deck and the service and food was excellent. This resort is romantic and ideal for honeymooners. Security is monitored. You will have to hire a car to get around. This is one of the best resorts on the island. We were not sure where to stay and read many reviews. When we arrived we went to the other hotels on our list and definately made the right choice.
