We stayed at this Shilo Inn about a year ago and was not that impressed. Very basic but reasonable prices. What got me to come back was the front desk staff. We thought we would be stuck in this little town with nothing to do. We were wrong! We basically let the young man at the front desk plan out the next couple of days for us. From wine tasting in this beautiful area, to white water rafting. We had the best two days ever. Thanks to him. Recently, We stopped in again. Wow. We were surprised. Improvements have been made. The grounds were so pretty. The hotel feels & smells very clean. Nothing was wrong with my room & it had a great view of The Dalles Dam. They now have somone running the Hotel that must care greatly. We looked for that young man again but could not find him. Give this Shilo a chance. It does need updating, that's for sure. Other than that, you will find a great place with a friendly & helpful staff.

The first room had no deadbolt. The lock was there to turn but no deadbolt to fit into the lock. There was a chain lock on top. The door knob it self was all scratched up like someone had taken a screw driver to it. The patio door had been rigged with a screw for a lock.We moved to another room. The shower drain was slow and there was about 4"" of water in the tub, when it did drain there was black stuff left in the tub. I did not get a shower. There was no heat in the bath room and it was overall unkept.

06/21/2007Nice room but a lot of fixing up to do. bathtub wouldn't drain. toilet was a slow flush and fill. hairdryer had electric shock & needed to be replaced.
